About the department
Novo Nordisk South Korea is a dynamic affiliate in a high growth phase, with a strong purpose to bring life-changing products to people living with Diabetes, Obesity and other serious chronic diseases. This position will report to the Head of Legal, Compliance and Quality, who manages 5 direct reports in L&C team in addition to Quality team. The Legal & Compliance team is part of Legal, Compliance, Quality (LCQ) department.  

 

The position
The person in this position will assume the responsibility for supporting effectiveness in decision-making and hence, adding value across Novo Nordisk Korea (NNPK) by providing proactive and operational advice and solutions. The person is in charge of preventing the potential risk and post handling all disputes, including suits and claims from the business partners. Additionally, the person is responsible for establishing simple, efficient and aligned legal structure, systems and processes for value adding trend identification and risk management. Last but not least, the person is responsible for establishing Business ethics (BE)-based mindset in decisions and ingraining in the company culture. This position is a permanent position.
As the Legal Counsel, your key accountabilities include:

  • Contracts Review: The role involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and amending NN template contracts while carefully managing high-risk contracts as identified by TPR. It requires ensuring compliance with the Contract Management Procedure in NNPK, potentially collaborating with a law firm when necessary. Additionally, the position entails developing standard templates in partnership with the Legal & Compliance (L&C) team.
  • Legal Advice: The role involves providing day-to-day legal advice to lines of business (LoBs), reviewing activities to ensure compliance with local laws and identifying potential risks. By offering proactive and operational legal guidance, the position supports effective decision-making and adds value across NNPK. 
  • Dispute and Claim: The role focuses on preventing and managing disputes with competitors, customers, and business partners, as well as strategically handling litigation, suits, and injunctions in collaboration with external counsel. It includes reviewing potential legal and product liability issues in relation to local regulations and engaging with other teams to discuss strategies for mitigating current disputes and preventing future issues.
  • Government Investigation: Handling and Support legal issues from government authorities (e.g. KFTC, KFDA, MOWH, Prosecution investigation or other government inquiries).
  • Global Alignment: Handling and Support legal requests from HQ, IO and APAC.
  • Others: The role involves managing matters related to the General Meeting of Shareholders and ensuring that all NNPK employees receive necessary legal training and complete mandatory tests. It focuses on protecting NNPK's reputation and involves monitoring changes in laws and court precedents, sharing updates with relevant departments, and applying these changes to NNPK’s systems and policies. Additionally, the position includes managing communications with local law firms and overseeing legal costs.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in law for 2+ years are required. Korea licensed lawyer (Member of Korea Bar Association) is highly preferred. 
  • Korean language fluency as well as English communication skills are required.
  • Strong understanding and expertise in regulations and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with supportive, persuasive, passionate and energetic mindset.
  • Self-motivated and capable of proactively driving the legal and compliance agenda.
