About the Department

At Novo Nordisk Research Center Seattle, Inc. (NNRCSI) our scientists apply cutting-edge technologies to early R&D projects with the goal of bringing real change to people with Diabetes and Obesity. Our scientists apply state-of-the-art technologies within the diabetes and obesity areas, with the goal of bringing molecules to market.  Your skills, dedication and ambition will help change lives for the better and you will work with extraordinary talent, continuously learn and develop, and drive changes to defeat serious chronic conditions. We recognize the importance of an enjoyable workplace, which stimulates a strong culture of ingenuity and innovation and our support of a healthy work-life balance adds to a best-in-class employee experience.  The team is comprised of collaborative, diverse and passionate people who have a true sense of pride in their work and are committed to helping others grow and develop in their careers. You’ll also have a platform to engage with key stakeholders on a global scale throughout the entire pipeline process. And while changing the future of obesity treatment is no easy task, we also recognize the importance of an enjoyable workplace, which is why we’ve cultivated a culture of fun, ingenuity and innovation. We are changing lives, are you ready to make a difference?

The Position

The primary focus will be on developing and implementing automated receptor pharmacology cell-based assays to support early discovery screening, target identification/validation programs and more mature obesity pipeline projects.

Provide hands-on technical support to the target discovery program and peer leadership to their research team/group. Provide oral and written updates and archiving of research data and programs. This will be achieved by independently designing and executing experiments, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring completion of project key deliverables.

Relationships

Reports to the head of the In Vitro Pharmacology and Bioanalysis Department at Novo Nordisk Research Center Seattle.  The In Vitro Pharmacology team is a diverse group that share a passion for obesity research and our mission is to discover new scientific paths to improve the lives of people living with obesity. We execute on that by develop and provide state-of-the-art human-centric in vitro approaches for identification of targets and key biology to discover and develop new disruptive obesity therapeutics. Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff and other members of the Global Obesity and Liver Disease scientific leadership team; regular collaborations with members of other research departments at NNRCSI; and frequent interaction with project managers and other colleagues in Denmark, UK and China. Individual may be responsible for indirect reports or contingent workers.

Essential Functions

  • Major contributor to research projects through hands-on independent work of highly complex tasks involving multiple experimental activities and groups. Handles most situations independently and with routine, receives minimal guidance, but will seek advice and guidance on more complex issues.
  • Demonstrates a breadth of knowledge and skills within in vitro pharmacology to support the development, optimization, and management of research protocols of high complexity to advance multiple drug discovery efforts with limited supervisor input.
  • Analyzes complex data with high degree of sophistication, connecting disparate datasets to reach conclusions and set direction on experiments. Contributes strong scientific acumen to enable projects and advance the research agenda. Authors internal reports and external publications with limited guidance from supervisor.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of theoretical knowledge and a connection to the external scientific community through continuous evaluation of relevant literature. Expands the capabilities of early target discovery through the generation of new target ideas, evaluation of biology or methods, and implementation of technologies that add value.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify biology-, target-, or technology-focused gaps and questions, and to propose solutions for long-term benefit of department, site, or company.
  • Achieves business goals, shares learnings, knowledge, skills, and promotes cross-functional and global teamwork
