Senior Epidemiologist
Søborg, Capital Region of Denmark, DK
R&D Real‑World Evidence Clinical Evidence & Insights
Søborg, Denmark or London, UK
Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a highly professional, scientific, and global environment where your epidemiological expertise can directly influence clinical strategy and evidence generation across Novo Nordisk’s development pipeline? Do you want to work with real‑world data (RWD) to shape trial designs, advocate for the use of RWD elements in trials, strengthen inference using innovative methods like target trial emulation, and generate impactful insights for key scientific and business decisions? Then this may be the opportunity for you.
Your new role
As a Senior Epidemiologist in R&D Real‑World Evidence (RWE) Clinical Evidence & Insights (CEI), you will play a strategic role in generating high‑quality evidence to guide decision‑making across the clinical development lifecycle and position RWD-powered trial elements like data linkage and external control arms with clinical and operational stakeholders. You will work closely with epidemiologists, and data scientists in our area, as well as medical and translational science teams, and other stakeholders to design and deliver robust RWE and shape efficient clinical programs.
The location of the position can be in our offices either at Søborg, Denmark, or King Cross London, UK.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Core scientific & analytical responsibilities
- Generate insights that inform clinical trial strategy, including:
- rapid cycle analytics for early decision points
- evidence to support drug repurposing opportunities
- feasibility insights and assessment of clinical trial designs with RWE elements
- Lead and deliver complex pharmacoepidemiologic and classical epidemiologic studies, ensuring fit for purpose design, appropriate data sources, and methodological rigor.
- Drive integration of RWD-powered innovative trial designs including data linkage, registry-based randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and external control arm capabilities to enhance clinical efficiency and inference.
- Provide methodological leadership on state-of-the-art RWE such as target trial emulation.
- Communicate results clearly and convincingly—verbally, in presentations, and in written scientific deliverables, including peer reviewed publications.
Strategic & cross-functional impact
- Represent R&D RWE CEI with a strong epidemiological voice in cross-functional teams such as clinical development teams, influencing trial design considerations, and shape efficient clinical program strategy.
- Shape and drive RWE to address evidence needs in integrated evidence plans in collaboration with stakeholders across the organisation including Global Medical Affairs, Medical and Translational Science and other internal partners.
- Collaborate with external academic and industry partners and contribute to scientific consensus with high quality RWE.
Execution & project leadership
- Lead and oversee outsourced RWD analyses and studies, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and alignment with project needs.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and stakeholders, maintaining transparency, prioritisation, and scientific integrity.
- Drive continuous improvement in analytical processes and RWE delivery, leveraging fit-for-purpose platforms, vendors, and in- and external collaborations.

Your skills & qualifications
To succeed in this role, you have:
- MSc, PhD, or equivalent with training in Epidemiology.
- Demonstrated expertise in pharmacoepidemiology or related fields.
- Solid hands-on experience with RWD (registries, electronic medical records, claims, observational studies, partnerships).

- Proven experience coordinating complex projects with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence a cross-functional, global stakeholder landscape.
- Ability to represent epidemiological perspectives confidently in senior cross-functional fora.
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Experience with RWD powered innovative trial elements.
- Experience with regulatory interactions or submissions involving RWE.
