Your new role

In Medical & Translational Science, Medical & Science Device development is organised into two departments anchored in Obesity and Cardiometabolic Health (O&CMH). The department working with the obesity and cardiometabolic portfolio has now an open Director position to lead a team of 9 medical doctors.

As our new Director you will be working closely with the current Director of the second team (supporting the Diabetes, CV, Liver & Rare Disease area) and together drive medical device development forward. You will report to the Sr. Director of Medical & Science, Early Assets, Device & Digital in O&CMH.

Your main responsibilities will be focused on:

Leadership & People

  • Performance management, task prioritization and scoping of Medical & Science related activities in accordance with business needs and approved project strategies and plans
  • Collaborating closely with other leaders in Medical & Science, taking an active part in developing the area
  • Recruiting and continuous development of team members

Finance & Operations

  • Department budget, setting targets, and ensuring adherence to defined financial targets

Compliance & Quality

  • Maintaining and optimising processes and ensuring compliance of department and deliverables with external and internal requirements

Clinical & Device Development 

  • Driving the clinical development plans and clinical evaluation to secure the safety and performance of our devices incl. SaMD (software as medical devices).
  • Supporting other evidence generating activities to demonstrate clinical benefit
  • Assisting in the scoping of device development projects by providing clinical perspective and medical guidance on device benefits and risk

Scientific & Medical Review

  • Providing input to, and medical review of, key documents related to conceptualization, design, and development of medical devices.

The position will require up to 5% travel.

 

Your skills and qualifications

To be successful in this role, we are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • University degree as a Medical Doctor. Scientific training at PhD level or similar is an advantage
  • Five years of documented experience within clinical product development and/or 3-5 years of device development experience and/or 3-5 years of people management experience
  • Ideally, expertise in medical device development, including concepts such as Clinical Evaluation, Clinical Development Plans, Design Control, Safety Risk Management, MDR and other relevant legislation/guidelines
  • Excellent communicator and presenter with good command of written and spoken English

Your new area

The department Medical & Science Devices & Digital has the medical responsibility over the growing portfolio of medical devices in Novo Nordisk. This includes drug delivery devices, such as pen-injectors, devices with connectivity features, novel technology platforms supporting the administration and use of new treatments, injection needles and software classified as a medical device. The responsibility of the department covers the entire device lifecycle from early research to post-approval life-cycle management.  

The team works in a highly cross-organizational fashion, typically at the interface between drug and device development. Interactions involve many internal stakeholders including device R&D, Clinical Reporting, Commercial, Clinical Operations, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs. Key external stakeholders include the medical and scientific community and health authorities.

We collaborate across projects and with academic partners and have a patient-centred focus.
