About the department
Product & Portfolio Strategy (P&PS) is an Executive Vice President (EVP) area led by Ludovic Helfgott, driving commercial strategy, medical affairs and business development across all therapy areas at Novo Nordisk – Obesity, Diabetes, Cardiovascular & Emerging Therapy Areas (CETA), and Rare Disease. P&PS is a connector and compass across the Novo Nordisk value chain. Upstream, towards Research & Early Development, Development, and CMC & Product Supply, P&PS guides the new Novo Nordisk portfolio for sustained competitiveness. Downstream, towards US Operations and International (ex-US) Operations, P&PS maximises portfolio potential through successful commercial strategies and competitive launches.
The position
As the new CVP of Global Market Access and Pricing for Novo Nordisk, you will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Portfolio Strategy & Access (PS&A) within our commercial organisation, Product & Portfolio Strategy, and will play a key role in the leadership team of the newly established area.
You will be responsible for leading a high-performing global market access and pricing organisation, setting and driving the global market access strategy for Novo Nordisk’s entire portfolio. You and your organisation will ensure best-in-class market access for all our products across the globe, integrating value demonstration, pricing and payer evidence requirements. You will drive cross functional and enterprise alignment and full integration into development and commercial strategies and plans.
In summary, your responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute comprehensive market access strategies that align with commercial objectives and target market needs, ensuring exemplary access to our products
- Provide expert guidance to the senior leaders on market access strategies and industry advancements
- Influence long-term strategic planning through thought leadership and innovation
- Shape strategy and recommend strategic development options to relevant key stakeholders and governance boards
Team Management
- Lead and mentor the Market Access team while building in-house knowledge, capabilities and unity to become an innovative and high performing access team
- foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and professional growth
- Understand and share the Novo Nordisk vision with the area/team
- Develop and implements strategic plans and can inspire and motivate the team to execute in accordance with it
- Delegate responsibilities and assignments. Plan and foresee the need of competencies in the area/team
Cross-functional partnerships
- Partner with commercial, clinical development, health technology assessment (HTA) teams, and regulatory affairs to optimize market access plans and shape product value propositions
Market Insights
- Assess industry trends, competitor activities, and policy changes to identify opportunities and challenges in the marketplace
- Implement data-driven decision-making to inform strategic direction
Champion external opportunities and innovation
- Identify and pursue external opportunities that align with company aspirations and market access goals
- Support prioritisation and challenge internal processes to ensure alignment with industry advancements.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the external access environment and ensure this understanding is cascaded across the organization and reflected in (TA) plans
- Represent Novo Nordisk in various governmental working groups, representative tasks, obligations to teach internally in the department or in Novo Nordisk, at universities or business schools, obligation to publish articles, represent Novo Nordisk at conferences etc.
The role is based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Denmark. We are open to relocating international talent.
Qualifications
You are an accomplished market access and pricing leader in a multinational pharmaceutical or biotech company.
In addition, you possess:
- Over 15 years in industry, with extensive experience in market access, pricing and health economics, ideally with a diverse background across commercial, development, and out-of-pocket or direct-to-consumer sectors
- Over 10 years in leadership roles and demonstrated experience building best-in-class market access and pricing organisations at a global (international) level.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing global initiatives, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the drug development value chain.
- A deep understanding of core market access topics including health technology assessments, and proficiency in developing and executing innovative market access strategies across therapy areas.
- Experience in engaging with key opinion leaders and stakeholders at executive level.
- A history of successful collaboration and influence within complex, matrix organizations.
- An advanced degree in a relevant field, such as health economics, science, or business/finance, with a strong analytical focus.
You are a strategic leader who effectively utilizes your varied experiences and skillset to instigate change and develop high-performing organizations. You have a strong passion for cross-functional collaboration and actively look for opportunities to connect across the value chain to make a difference for patients.
