The Position
Leads the Enterprise Insights function - the center of excellence for Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) strategic and tactical guidance, providing knowledge and actionable insights to drive objective, evidence-based decision making. The role oversees multiple business unit-aligned insights & teams in addition to cross functional teams.
The position works closely with key stakeholders across the Executive Team, sales and marketing leadership, finance and others to ensure plans are aligned, continuously updated, prioritized and properly funded. Works closely with the SVP, Finance, Insights & Enterprise Solutions to ensure effective representation of NNI performance information and enterprise insights.
Relationships
Reports directly to the SVP, Finance, Insights & Enterprise Solutions. Reporting into this position are the Diabetes, Obesity and MASH Insights Lead, Rare Disease Insights Lead, Emerging TA Insights & Strategic Market Insight Lead, Sales Insights Lead, CMR Insights Lead, MAPA Insights Lead, Enterprise Insights Lead and Strategic Advisor.
Serves as key advisor to the Executive Team on a routine basis, as well as leadership teams and all levels of the business, both locally and globally regarding insight development & consumption. External relationships include interaction with various vendors and consultants based on the needs of special projects or implementation of new programs.
Essential Functions
- Enterprise Insights:
- Drive Unified Insights Across Functions and TAs: Lead the generation of actionable data & insights tailored to the specific needs of business functions and therapeutic areas and the enterprise, overseeing the process and providing guidance on methodologies. Ensure the implementation of robust measurement frameworks to track the value generated by data-driven initiatives
- Serves as a key advisor to the NNI Executive & Leadership Team to ensure that the development of the company’s strategic and commercial plans are based on relevant market forces
- Collaborates with NNI senior leadership and Global Marketing to continuously improve insight development and delivery
- Collaborate Across Functions, TAs and Data and Advanced Analytics Teams: Proactively engage with functions and TAs to identify opportunities where insights can drive value and support decision-making. Direct the Insight Leads and provide guidance as needed. Collaborate with the Enterprise Data & Advanced Analytics lead and other stakeholders to develop data-driven solutions that address business needs and priorities
- Insight Leads:
- The Insight teams are responsible for generating, integrating & translating insights & analytics into strategic opportunities that shape decisions and drive organizational action. These teams empower evidenced-based decision making based on holistic insights, and strategic and tactical guidance to all levels of the enterprise via custom primary market research and secondary data analytics
- Internal relationships include close interactions with CS&M, Sales, MAPA, CMR, F&O, P&O, STARS, Legal, Compliance & Communications as well as global insights and analytics teams. External relationships include interactions with professional research partners, secondary data vendors and consultants
- Field force insights and analytics:
- Responsible for evaluating the current and future customer-facing size and structure for NNI commercial teams. Makes size and structure recommendations based on historical promotional response, anticipated future forecasts, competitive benchmarking, and strategic portfolio considerations. In addition, this team leads all commercial planning for the sales force including call planning and resource allocation. Also tracks key metrics of success while tracking subnational performance and uncovering local market insights for strategic decision making
- Strategic market intelligence:
- The strategic marketing intelligence (SMI) team is responsible for market intelligence across the entire NNI current and future planned portfolios. Responsibilities include: competitive intelligence, situational analysis for pipeline products, business development assessment, market landscaping for potential future therapeutic areas, and monitoring of health care trends (e.g. digital, payer consolidation, etc) on a regular basis. Also supports the enterprise strategy team in creating the long-term strategic plan for NNI based on market trends
Physical Requirements
20-30% overnight travel required.

Supervisory
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree (MBA or scientific degree) required
- Ability to work with senior management and serve as an active participant of the senior leadership team
- At least 15 years progressive business analysis and services experience within the Pharmaceutical industry
- International marketing/commercial effectiveness experience strongly preferred
- Experience with management of outside vendors and marketing research methods preferred
- Prior leadership experience required - Ability to lead, motivate, inspire and manage large teams (40+); Proven ability to hold people accountable for results
- Proven track record of driving performance & achieving results
- Strategic planning & insights experience required
- Strong knowledge of Pharmaceutical Market Research Information sources
- Demonstrated experience with competitive intelligence and patient support programs
- Proven record of building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Ability to understand and anticipate stakeholder needs and expectations. Ability to foster collaborative working environment to drive organizational success
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information effectively. Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders to drive alignment and achieve shared goals
