The Position

The Senior Manager, Strategic Market Intelligence leads the healthcare landscape monitoring and reporting efforts across Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) in support of the short and long term strategic planning, working closely with key stakeholders to ensure opportunities and risks are identified and plans are aligned, prioritized based on the full knowledge of anticipated changes in the external landscape. Additionally, the Senior Manager, Strategic Market designs and drives specific benchmarking projects to ensure NNI identifies areas that require further enhancement. As a strategic advisor to the organization, designs and leads strategic workshops to address healthcare trends, market events, or to better understand competitors and/or customers. Responsibilities include coordination, facilitation, effective delivery and alignment of landscape trends and implications to NNI This requires integration with other stakeholders across NNI and global including Market Access, Public Policy, and Medical Strategy. Significant interaction with senior leadership and brand teams required to develop and communicate strategy with the full knowledge of the external environment. Also responsible for further enhancing digital health, device and technology, and Market Access intelligence capabilities for NNI. Facilitates collaboration among necessary stakeholders and engages in continuous communication regarding market events.

 

Relationships

This position reports to the Director of Strategic Market Intelligence. Interacts and collaborates with colleagues in Enterprise Strategy, Commercial Insights and Analytics, Marketing teams, Medical Strategy, Market Access, Finance & Operations, and Global Commercial Planning etc., as well as external sources and industry experts. As a strategic advisor across the portfolio, reports validated and analyzed information on industry trends and benchmarking back to stakeholders and senior management as appropriate Integrates market intelligence into planning, designing and executing market research projects in support of enterprise level strategic initiatives. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors and well as key industry experts. Works closely with marketing operations and North American consulting team in addressing the organizational needs. Provide the landscape overviews in support of planning, forecasting, and all strategic workshops. Serve as the US Healthcare trends and consumer intelligence lead within Commercial Insights and Analytics.

 

Essential Functions

  • Market Intelligence and Strategic Planning
    • In collaboration with market intelligence colleagues, develops capabilities to address consumer and social intelligence
    • Monitors and deliver insights on digital, device and technologies across therapeutic areas
    • In partnership with key stakeholders collaborates on Digital Health projects
    • Works with MI colleagues to further enhance Market Access Intelligence capabilities and deliverables
    • Assists in the development of the Novo Nordisk strategic plan, as well as those for specific therapeutic areas, brands, and imperatives in collaboration with marketing planning leads
    • Explores processes and capability enhancement opportunities through benchmarking and incorporate learnings into future strategic planning and commercial effectiveness processes
    • Provide strategic consultancy support across Marketing, Market Access, Public Affairs, and Medical Strategy team
    • Act as the strategic advisor on healthcare trends and provide guidance on risks and opportunities to various stakeholders including forecasting, Marketing and Market Access LT, and Finance and Operations
    • Facilitate the environmental landscape think tank within NNI and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure one consistent view of the external healthcare landscape in incorporated into strategic planning
    • Design, execute, and facilitate working group/ strategy sessions in support of market events as well as lifecycle management
    • Evaluation and recommendation of new capabilities across Commercial Insights to ensure NNI is exposed to the latest external capabilities
    • Evaluate and conduct market research projects in support consumer insights and digital initiatives
    • Lead internal benchmarking and facilitation projects across Commercial Insights and Analytics
    • Incorporates and aligns into strategic and tactical planning process various internal and external scenarios that have been identified as having potential for significant business impact on NNI. Guides integration of scenario planning work streams into US planning at the brand, COE and portfolio levels
    • Collaborates with Market Intelligence and Marketing on scenario planning and provide guidance on pull through of scenario planning outputs
    • Manages vendors to facilitate benchmarking, capability development, and intelligence gathering and analysis in support of digital health
    • Manages/leads special projects as assigned
    • Provide logistical support (material creation and delivery for leadership meetings
    • Provides proactive support to key stakeholders in ensuring that plans are adjusted and properly communicated as organizational priorities change
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders, across brand marketing, public policy, market access, medical strategy, marketing operations, North American consulting, and Global
    • Develop presentations with insight-driven recommendations and clear storylines to communicate key conclusions and recommendations
  • Leadership and Development
    • Champion the environmental landscape work stream across NNI
    • Serve as the capabilities assessment and benchmarking lead across Commercial Insights
    • Provide leadership and guidance across multiple stakeholder groups that support an aligned organizational strategic direction

 

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Engineering, Science, or related field with a minimum of 8 years professional experience, including 3 years in the health care industry required; or MBA plus minimum of 6 years professional experience in analytics, finance, strategy plus at least 2 years experience in marketing or management consulting
  • Ability to collect complex information, making it relevant, understandable, and actionable for stakeholders
  • Basic working knowledge of key NNI therapeutic areas
  • Facilitation experience and/or strong demonstration of interpersonal skills, especially the ability to influence constructively across levels (senior leadership, line management, brand team membership, administrative staff)
  • Proven ability to plan/manage multiple projects and consistently deliver results
  • Quantitative analysis skills
  • Solid critical thinking and creative problem solving skills. Ability to understand project needs and take a logical approach to planning projects, organizing work and communicating results
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills
  • Work independently - Gather input about needs from stakeholders and set own direction accordingly Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint; Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Working knowledge of IMS Data Sets
