The Position
The Senior Director, Strategic Excellence (SE) is accountable for setting an integrated strategic medical partnership excellence plan (SEP), program development & training (PD&T) plan and execution of these plans for the relevant therapy area (TA). They are responsible for leading the defined SE teams to drive and deliver against key business goals, including establishing the NN medical presence with customer groups and supporting the external medical/market development of the defined therapy area (TA). Partnerships and related projects can include diagnostic companies, device companies and professional associations and exclude research partnerships. Partnerships and related projects are focused on increasing disease awareness, improve screening and diagnosis, and/or informing medical management.
Relationships
The position reports into Therapy Area Head, Medical Affairs and will have all relevant in-house and field functions for medical partnerships and readiness reporting into them, i.e., scientific directors, program development & training directors, etc. This role will require effective collaboration and coordination across external business partners, e.g., diagnostic companies, professional societies, as well as internal NNI and HQ teams, including but not limited to, MA professional association strategy, commercial, access and legal/compliance. The SDMA is also able to serve as proxy for the TA Head in broader strategic medical partnership governance fora. As part of TA Head Leadership Team, they will partner to set the goals and objectives for the full TA Head business areas.
Essential Functions
- Lead the develop of overall vision and strategy for the Strategic Excellence (SE) unit, in consultation with TA leadership team and TA Head
- Lead the development of TA Strategic Excellence Plan (SEP), inclusive of strategic partnerships (diagnostic companies, societies, etc.), strategic projects and team readiness (knowledge/training)
- As a senior level representative of medical affairs, the SDSE will work closely with the TA-specific NNI and Global teams to co-create medically appropriate and patient-focused strategy for TA-relevant external medical partnerships and projects
- Work directly with the Director, Medical Affairs Professional Association Strategy to ensure aligned planning and execution of projects and partnerships with key professional associations and societies
- Coordinate activities and initiatives with Medical Director team and field teams to ensure aligned planning and execution within all TA functions
- Lead the develop and execution of the overall strategies and plans for scientific resources, communications and training initiatives for the TA team and relevant cross-functional/enterprise partners
- Drive a culture of patient focus, inclusiveness, respect, curiosity, entrepreneurism and role model the Novo Nordisk way
- Ensure the creation of a high performing TA leadership team that is focused, empowered, delivers on current business priorities while planning for the future
Physical Requirements
Up to 50% overnight travel required. This is a field based position and can be located anywhere in the US.

Supervisory
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- A PharmD, PhD, MD or other advanced Health degree required
- Minimum of 10 years progressive pharmaceutical industry/relevant clinical/medical leadership experience required
- Proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing and leading business-to-business partnerships and in team management

The base compensation range for this position is $235,000 to $310,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
