The Position

The position serves as Chief of Staff, strategist, consultant and implementer for the Corporate Vice President, HR with planning and directing key operational, financial, and administrative activities directly representing the Corporate Vice President (CVP), HR. Acts as a strategic partner to guide the operations within the People & Organization (P&O) function for North American Operations (NAO) and coordinating across North American sites as applicable. This role is responsible for assisting the CVP, HR in strategizing all high profile, enterprise-wide projects as well as all global P&O initiatives. This role will provide advisory and consultative support to P&O leaders as it relates to program implementation and lead critical initiatives across North America with some including all US based sites.



Reports to the Corporate Vice President, HR but maintains a high level of connectivity with the global People & Organization Centers of Excellence (CoE) partners comprising of all of Global People & Organization (GPO) and Global People & Organization Services (GPOS). Liaises with the HRBP and HR COE teams to ensure their awareness of global initiatives and projects, exceptions and how to implement within NAO. Critical member of the NAO HR Leadership Team and also a key voice on Global P&O advisory committees. This position requires frequent senior management interaction, leadership and collaboration. This position works with related functions across Novo Nordisk to ensure strategic coordination across the organization. External relationships include interactions with various vendors and consultants based on the needs of special projects or implementation of new programs.


Essential Functions

  • Drives NAO P&O strategy with a strong alignment to global P&O strategy to promote ONE P&O team in partnership with HRBP for HR. This includes the strategic and programmatic approach on how to execute within NAO
  • Serves as a strategic partner to the global P&O COEs providing insights from NAO on the impact on their programs before and after implementation and execution
  • Proactively identifies, plans, and implements P&O tools, programs and processes that impact the people strategy at NAO
  • Represents P&O, sometimes on behalf of or in addition to the CVP HR, on all local and global cross functional/ enterprise-wide initiatives, including steering committees or project teams; this includes coordinating HRLT input and approval where necessary
  • Anticipates HR issues and trends across HR function to help guide the needs of NAO with our global and local COE partners. Identify opportunities and develop solutions to address issues in partnership with NAO HRLT and HR COE team
  • Partners with key stakeholders to ensure HR strategies support business and organization objectives. Proactively identifies and implements HR tools, programs and processes to address the factors negatively impacting organizational performance
  • Leads, develops and drives the creation of a client-focused People Strategy that links to business goals and demonstrates increased business impact and sustainability. Works with HR leadership teams to gain support in implementation and coordination within/outside of their department
  • Anticipates and capitalizes on talent development opportunities that link to business objectives and develops innovative processes and practices for managing organizational talent in partnership with Employee Experience team
  • Builds and maintains trusting, collaborative relationship and alliances with others inside and outside of the organization, which help accomplish key business objectives
  • Support CVP on key deliverables. Address inquiries directed to the CVP, HR and coordinate related input and/or formal responses and communications
  • Lead/coordinate assigned projects that stretch across HR/ET
  • Ensuring CVP preparedness for engagement in all Executive fora including but not limited to Executive Management and Executive Meetings and GP&O Leadership Meeting
  • Lead NAO HRLT and HR Department meetings, determining agenda topics, driving meeting flow and ensuring follow-up to agreed-upon actions items
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication and coordination and demonstrate leadership in resolving ownership and accountability ambiguity
  • Create holistic annual HR calendar for key HR/Talent process, programs and implementation timeline in alignment with NAO HRLT and key stakeholders


Physical Requirements

10-20% overnight travel required.



  • A Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree or MBA preferred
  • Requires a minimum of 12 years of progressively increasing HR experience with at least 6 years in a HR Business Partner role
  • Established experience and success within 2 or more specialized HR functions
  • Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction/plans and proven ability to implement and sustain business improvement and results; strong business acumen required. Ideal candidate will possess experience across multiple business functions (i.e. research, development, production, marketing, sales, finance)
  • Solid, working knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and federal legislation related to employment practices and general HR administration
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute and follow-up in a timely manner. Proven ability to work across all functions with all levels of stakeholders both locally and globally
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to communicate with and influence senior leaders in a matrixed, global environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, strong relationship building and stakeholder management. Flexibility to meet business needs while moving key initiatives and priorities forward
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to synthesize complex information into user-friendly, persuasive formats and presentations
