About the Department

The Rare Disease organization leads all US Commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The Rare Disease portfolio includes medical treatments, customer solutions, and devices across multiple Therapy Areas including Rare Bleeding Disorders, Rare Endocrine Disorders, Rare Renal Disorders, and Hemoglobinopathies (Sickle Cell Disease & Beta Thalassemia), as well as new products in the pipeline.

 

The Rare Disease organization is responsible for leading the enterprise approach to achieving our patient care goals and financial objectives, devising and delivering transformative patient and customer experiences, addressing unmet needs across the communities we serve, and setting the industry standard for extraordinary execution. The team members collaborate and partner cross functionally with multiple functions and groups throughout the US organization, Clinical Development, Research & Early Development, other affiliates, and the Global HQ teams.

The Position

The Senior Director, Rare Disease Marketing is accountable for overseeing inline & emerging assets for rare bleeding and rare endocrine therapy areas (TA), leading the strategy for each asset and overall portfolio to ensure success. In coordination with global, will develop and implement effective pre and post-launch and in-line plans to maximize revenue, market share and profitability goals. Has significant decision-making authority and influence on impacting revenue and profitability. Leads the annual brand and portfolio strategy planning processes to drive integrated customer centric strategies and programming. Responsible for brand and portfolio performance in partnership with sales leadership. Manages US marketing budget and allocates spend in accordance with business priorities. Significant contributor to the global strategy for the portfolio by working closely with global marketing and medical leaders by participating in cross-functional and global Core Commercialization Teams. Relationships

Reports to the Group Vice President of Rare Disease and is a key contributor to the Rare Disease Leadership team. This leader will serve as the primary interface with the heads of both commercial and non-commercial functions within NNI relative to designated areas within Rare Disease, their performance and business impact. This leader will work closely with Commercial Excellence, Field Sales and Community Engagement to deliver on the Rare Disease promise.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute the Rare Disease commercial strategy for the designated therapeutic areas, aligning with overall company objectives
  • Responsible for the Profit & Loss (P&L) statement for the assigned therapeutic areas within Rare Disease
  • Establish and monitor financial performance metrics, ensuring revenue targets and profitability goals are met or exceeded
  • Define key performance metrics and establish mechanisms for tracking and reporting on the effectiveness of commercial marketing strategies and initiatives
  • Accountable for matrixed management of dedicated functions and leading the RD portfolio with a high level of influence
  • Responsible for ensuring market analysis, competitor assessment, and customer experience insights to shape strategic decisions and plans with iterative adjustments as new customer experience or competitor insights become available
  • Lead an integrated Rare Disease strategic planning process cross-functionally across the enterprise including portfolio prioritization and alignment
  • Reimagine marketing through a customer experience lens to drive a focus on human centric, insight driven strategy and execution
  • Accountable for shaping and defining customer experience strategy, planning and execution across customer types including HCPs and patients in Rare Disease
  • Provides leadership oversight in developing and executing the overall pre-launch and launch strategic and tactical brand plans in alignment/collaboration with global marketing
  • Translates product strategy into brand-specific and customer centric experiences across channels and segments
  • Oversees the development of brand/marketing vision, strategies, business plans, launch plans to increase market share, profits and drive the impact of our business
  • Develops strategic approach to reaching diverse communities in support of brand/therapy area focused efforts. Identify objectives, optimal goals and key messages needed to resonate
  • Embraces Rare Disease’s entrepreneurial mindset by promoting a culture of creativity and innovation commercialization approaches, including digital strategies, to maximize the potential of medicines
  • Leads the market TA aligned product launch planning and execution, ensuring successful innovative go-to-market entry and adoption, when applicable
  • Fosters strong relationships with internal teams, including Sales, R&D, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Legal and Compliance to ensure alignment in product development, launch strategies, and lifecycle management
  • Responsible for building a high-performing commercial team, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure individual and team success
  • Fosters the professional growth and strategic acumen of Therapeutic Area leads, guiding them to navigate market complexities and achieve targeted business objectives
  • Responsible for setting and communicating clear individualized role expectations for each report based on position, skills, talents, and objectives
  • Ensure reporting personnel have strengths-based development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business
  • Recruit, build and lead a highly effective marketing organization

 

Physical Requirements

30-40% overnight travel required.

 

Development of People

Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 15 years’ experience with a track record of successful brand management preferably across a therapeutic area or at a portfolio level
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • A proven inclusive leader that has a minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience and capable of leading a marketing organization with progressive increase in responsibility and scope in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong outside-in analytical thinking and insights orientation
  • Strong influence skills to align groups towards common purpose and goals
  • Results oriented executive possessing a high sense of urgency
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills in leading cross-functional teams required
  • Exceptional communication skills/executive presence required. Capacity to articulate the Rare Disease strategies is a must
  • Proven track record of innovative marketing accomplishments/high impact results (based on metrics/ROI)
  • Solid understanding of the marketplace and competition – experience working in Rare Disease preferred
  • Strategic Thinking/ Planning, Execution and follow-through/problem solving skills required
  • Ability to impact and influence and interact with senior business leaders and partners; interfacing with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate business growth

 

 

The base compensation range for this position is $172,000 to $318,600. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. 

 

Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
