The Position

Ownership responsibility for the contract lifecycle management from inception to execution for key strategic customers in Managed Care and Biopharm channels. Leads customer facing negotiation of contractual terms according to approved product strategies, pricing guidelines, legal and regulatory policies, while minimizing organizational risk and maintaining focus on corporate objectives. Responsible for advisor support for strategic accounts, regional accounts, GPO's, Specialty Pharmacies, specialty distributors and trade agreements. Provides insights to Market Access, Strategy and Innovation and PCOR with respect to challenges related to organizational, regulatory, compliance, and financial risk hurdles associated with managed care agreements. Documents adherence to agreement terms and independently drives resolution of deficiencies through solicitation of stakeholder needs and alignment to corporate goals. Responsible for contract accuracy and Sarbox compliance. Leads ad-hoc projects and serves as PMO. Recommends and implements innovations and process improvements for contract systems and procedures.

 

Relationships

Reports to a Director on the Strategic Pricing and Contracting team. Works closely with senior level partners in field Account Management across channels (Managed Care, Part D, Institutional) and therapeutic areas (Diabetes and BioPharm), as well as with internal stakeholders (Government Contracts & Compliance, Rebate Operations and Insights, Strategy and Innovations; Legal; and Risk Management). Works directly with contracted customers at leadership levels. Provides mentoring and learning opportunities for Account teams and PCOR colleagues.

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead for key strategic accounts supporting both National Accounts and PBM Executive Directors covering the entire US
  • Lead for Biopharm accounts supporting all Specialty Pharmacy and Distribution arrangements and/or Contract Strategy, driving channel or company initiatives for contracting, and providing guidance to junior members of the SPC team
  • Independently provides strategic and tactical contract recommendations to Market Access and Strategic Pricing partners in the development of contract offers and programs. Acts as lead facilitator to ensure input and analysis of all stakeholder feedback is incorporated into contracts as appropriate
  • Expert ability to understand and convert tactics and strategies into contract language. Autonomously authors complex contract documents, including the development of templates, draft of notices, amendments, agreements, and value/risk-based contracts grounded on approved products and pricing, market baskets, and product positioning requirements. Independently works with customers leadership levels and internal functional areas to reach agreement on business and legal aspects of a contract. Provides such documents to the account executive and/or customer within the required time frame
  • Obtains all appropriate and required internal reviews and approvals for contract terms and provisions. Ensures accuracy of pricing, market baskets, and terms within appropriate documents and timely submission of contracts to customers following offer approvals
  • Identifies and escalates any potential contractual risk and provides recommendation for mitigation.  Advises leadership and stakeholder functional areas of contractual rights, obligations and risk analysis, as necessary
  • Oversees contractual requirements for new product launches and manages the implementation and execution of all documents; provides regular status reports to internal stakeholders across functional groups
  • Maintains contractual information, including negotiation status and agreed upon terms and conditions, in Contract Lifecycle Management Tool (CLM). Responsible for training account executives on the use of CLM
  • Responsible for contract templates and all revisions as healthcare environment, market baskets and standard terms change
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for optimal performance, processes, and compliance improvement across entire contract management continuum
  • Leads with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrates effectiveness at working effectively with internal and external stakeholders

 

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience plus 8 years related experience required
  • Master’s Degree preferred 
  • 5 years minimum within the pharmaceutical or related industry, specifically in managed care contracting, is preferred; generics experience a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, collaborating with all stakeholders at all levels of the organization to analyze, develop and execute strategies and tactics that best achieve goals within deadlines
  • Legal experience a plus
  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical contracting, distribution channels, and products (understanding of therapeutic areas, drug administration)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word, Windows, Excel

 

The base compensation range for this position is $120,300 to $222,600. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
