The Position

The Scientific Director (SD) functions as a subject matter expert to ensure credibility and competency of the Managed Markets (MM) team and supports strategic projects aligned to the MM team Portfolio priorities. The SD works closely with the Managed Markets Leadership Team to identify and execute key projects in a timely fashion. In addition, the SD serves as a key member of the Managed Markets Channel and Portfolio Medical Strategy Team, supports the Field Alignment Director (FAD), and assists the Program Development and Training function for Managed Markets. SD will engage in direct customer facing activity as needed in support of portfolio priorities and business needs.

 

Relationships

This position will report into the Director, Channel and Portfolio Medical Strategy and is a member of the MM Leadership Team. They will coordinate with other TA functions including Medical Directors, Alignment Director, Program Development Director and the Medical field teams both within Managed Markets and across other TAs. This position will also coordinate with key functions across CMR (e.g., CDOR) and Market Access and Public Affairs and will participate in direct customer engagement activities when needed.

 

Essential Functions

Strategy Development and Alignment

  • Lead Channel and Portfolio Medical Strategy team in the development of long-term channel-specific MM strategy across portfolio, including team structure and size assessments; consult with vendors as appropriate
  • Represent Managed Markets on strategy teams (e.g., CMTs, PTs, and EGP Teams) for prioritized TAs as assigned and support MM representatives on non-prioritized CMTs and EGPs (e.g., RD), ensuring strategic and budgetary alignment across TAs
  • Serve as LT Sponsor/Strategic Lead of MM TA Sub-Teams for prioritized TAs and support Sub-Team members for non-prioritized TAs
  • Coordinate with Program Development and Training Director to align on overall strategies for scientific resources, communications, and training initiatives for the Managed Markets team
  • Work with MM FAD to ensure alignment of annual SAPs and KPIs with long-term portfolio strategy

Cross-functional and Field Support

  • Represent MM on cross-functional teams/working groups (e.g., within MAPA Strategy and Innovation, GEPA, Future Business Strategy) for prioritized TAs and support projects as needed
  • Assist with advisory boards including Regional, National and/or asynchronous virtual advisory boards and as requested, support presentations of medical data at commercial focus groups
  • Utilize subject matter expertise and business acumen to provide deeper customer knowledge and knowledge of the healthcare landscape to enhance field teams’ execution of strategy
  • Provide feedback and mentoring to MM team members newly placed into strategic functions (e.g., FAD, Sub-Team Leads) and provide on-going support, as determined by Director   
  • Provide MAD/HOD support for engagements with priority stakeholders and other initiatives as requested

Market and Landscape Trend Identification

  • Identify and anticipate potential trends, changes to market conditions and areas of opportunity aligned with Managed Markets priorities across TAs
  • Support analysis and translation of insights and Competitive Intelligence to inform strategy, develop initiatives and guide plans and priorities
  • Identify, evaluate, and assess new stakeholder groups to determine potential future opportunities

Other Essential Functions

  • Ensure personal compliance with all internal/external SOPs/rules and regulations regarding NNI products, customer interaction, and relationships
  • Support a culture of patient focus, inclusiveness, respect, curiosity, entrepreneurism and be a role model of the Novo Nordisk way

 

Physical Requirements

35 - 50% overnight travel required; position is field based, candidate can be based anywhere in the United States as this role covers the US; driver must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.

 

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in health sciences (PhD, PharmD, etc.) required; MD/DO degree preferred
  • At least 5 years in clinical practice and/or relevant industry experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of managed care, healthcare/payer landscape, and therapeutic areas across portfolio required
  • Previous experience working in a matrix pharmaceutical organization preferred
  • Strong presentation skills required, prior experience in a teaching/training role preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills
  • Demonstrated success of strategic project ideation and execution on local, regional, and national level with measurable outcomes required, global project success desired

The base compensation range for this position is $235,000 to $300,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
