The Position

The Market Access Employer Strategy Director, is part of a team responsible for developing channel strategies that will ensure profitable access position for existing and future NNI products. Formulates, leads and aligns Novo Nordisk market access strategy for the Employer channel, including Commercial business. Responsible for developing and leading enterprise employer strategy and working cross-functionally with field teams on execution. Employer strategy encompasses Employers, Employer Benefit Consultants (EBCs), Brokers, Commercial Health Plans, PBMs, Coalitions. Provides centralized expertise for Employer channel to cross-functional teams.

 

Relationships

Reports to Market Access Channel Strategy Lead.  Interacts frequently in collaboration with internal management and senior level representatives, including MAPA VPs and Directors. Also, interacts routinely with colleagues across Market Access and Public Affairs, including franchise teams, and internal stakeholders from PCOR, Finance, Brands, HEOR, Government Pricing, U.S. and Global Marketing Management, Account Executives, Supply Chain, and Legal. External relationships include interactions with key managed markets customers, EBCs, Employer Coalitions, as well as vendors and consultants.

 

Essential Functions

  • Leads development of overarching strategy for Employer channel, including segment prioritization; ensuring cross-functional alignment for strategic direction to achieve short-term and long-term business objectives that supports sustained growth and deeper employer engagement.
  • Drives engagement with Employers, EBCs, and Coalitions to develop deeper relationships and uncover insights; representing organization at conferences and other events.
  • Engages with consultants, actuaries, PBMs, TPAs, and employer decision-makers to understand evolving customer priorities and purchasing behaviors impacting access, especially GLP-1 access.
  • Develops and executes employer-specific access and affordability strategies, including for obesity and GLP-1 therapies, balancing clinical value, cost containment, utilization management, and long-term outcomes objectives.
  • Identifies barriers to access and adherence within employer-sponsored populations and recommends scalable solutions to improve patient experience and outcomes.
  • Evaluates emerging employer benefit design trends, including obesity treatment coverage expansion, outcomes-based agreements, lifestyle management integration, and digital health partnerships.
  • Collaborates with payer, trade, specialty pharmacy, alternate model and patient support teams to ensure alignment of employer channel strategies across the access ecosystem.
  • Monitors and assesses the US market access environment to identify trends and policy changes, including but not limited to changes in managed care, payment models, employer behavior, customer engagement, and coverage and reimbursement.
  • Serves as internal subject matter expert on employer benefit strategy, workforce health trends, and obesity management dynamics across the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Develops executive-level insights and recommendations for senior leadership regarding employer market evolution, coverage expansion opportunities, and competitive implications.
  • Supports enterprise readiness and launch planning for future obesity and cardiometabolic pipeline assets with relevance to employer-sponsored populations.
  • Contributes to annual brand planning and budgeting process to represent assigned channel needs across the organization.
  • Adheres to administrative policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same.
  • Leverages understanding of the competitive landscape to anticipate and pre-empt future competitor moves by supporting development of innovative strategies and tactics.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the customer buying process and product value proposition to develop employer-focused value propositions.

 

Physical Requirements

10%-15% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent experience. MBA, PharmD, or another advanced degree preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree, when appropriate.

  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in any of the following areas: employer benefits, employer coalition, payer/PBM, market access strategy, channel strategy, managing channel relationships, account management, value communication, or other relevant fields. An Advanced Degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.

  • Prior experience as an employer benefit consultant or managing employee benefits at a large or jumbo employer is preferred.

  • Deep understanding of the US payer and employer decision making (especially jumbo employers); how large employers make benefit decisions.

  • Demonstrated success in the design and execution of creative trade and market access strategies.

  • Excellent relationship management skills to build and maintain positive relationships with senior leadership representatives as well as with other functions across NNI.

  • Requires leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision.

  • Have strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Ability to access and influence various functional areas and motivate groups to action without direct line management responsibility.

  • Ability to lead large cross-functional project team without direct authority.

 

The base compensation range for this position is $187,000 to $327,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
