The Position

The Manager, Scientific Analytics - identifies and delivers dynamic and reliable analytics products and services by leveraging internal and external data to enable faster decision making across Novo Nordisk; and contributes to the growth, competitiveness, and innovation of the company. Acts as an internal technical consultant to understand the needs of stakeholders, build strategic relationships, and develop/implement innovative solutions that address the needs of the business. Provides technical support to analytics and other departmental systems.



This position reports the Senior Director level employee in Scientific Analytics and functions as a data analytics specialist in the Scientific Analytics department. Collaborates closely with teams in departments throughout the organization, including Medical Affairs, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Clinical Trial Management, Market Development & Healthcare Professional (HCP) Engagement, as well as with GLIA units globally. May also mentor Scientific Analytics interns and oversee projects with external vendors.


Essential Functions

  • Client & Business Focus
    • Strategically analyses technology landscape to develop and deliver novel analytics solutions and services (text mining analysis, dashboards, data visualization) and/or globally.  Casts vision with other departments to drive solution. Regularly and adeptly uses best in class technology tools for maximum business impact
    • Explores and introduces new data driven approaches to generate business insights in order to address unanswered business problems. Expertly understands and incorporates analytics best practices and keeps on top of emerging tools and practices. Leads the technical development of new and creative analytics solutions that will become part of our core deliverables
    • Participates in large and complex analytics projects; understands stakeholder needs; demonstrates thorough understanding of data and directs data preparation activities. Designs tools to support data processing and cleansing. Understands all aspects of project management (i.e. project charters & timelines, projects workshops, meeting facilitation, requirements gathering, communications, etc.)
    • Provides technical assessment of the accuracy, validity and reliability of data analysis and reporting. Validates, interprets and presents data findings to the Scientific Center of Excellence team. Strong understanding of the strengths and limitations of data sources, emerging technologies and analytics trends. Contributes to the design and development of scalable analytics systems and data infrastructure. Develops high-throughput ETL processes to turn disparate data feeds into high quality data assets. Researches new technologies and propose novel solutions for improving data systems and processes
    • Works closely with key stakeholders to understand current issues, anticipate future needs, and determine potential solutions
  • Communication
    • Communicates to ensure efficient knowledge sharing and collaboration within CMR Operations and often with other departments in CMR
    • Presents complex technical/design issues at internal/external meetings.  Supports team presentations of work to multiple departments with both strategic and tactical recommendations that are business-focused
  • Discretion & Latitude
    • Collaborates with other Scientific Analytics team members to ensure overall integration of products and services. Leads and drives information analysis projects. Contributor and occasionally project leader on cross-functional and cross-departmental projects
    • Leads the development of new standards and/or practices. Applies analytical capability and insight to tasks to build support for new standards and/or practices across departments

    • Participates in development of Scientific Analytics strategy and vision; able to drive strategy process; develops specific tactics and alternatives based on strategy. Adjusts tactics appropriately and independently based on workload. Communicates strategy and casts vision. Makes and executes decisions with impact within department and with impact across VP areas or across organizations
  • Interaction with Others
    • Has responsibilities to negotiate programs or agreements with external parties
    • May manage vendor partners on a task level
    • Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with stakeholders across CMR and all levels of the business in regards to tool development, report automation, business analytics and business intelligence
    • Acts as a formal or informal mentor for new hires or others within Scientific Analytics or at Novo Nordisk. May oversee students on a rotational basis

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required; May require occasional work outside of standard business hours to support special requests/events.



  • Bachelor's degree required, relevant experience may be substituted for degree, when appropriate; advanced degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics, or related field preferred
  • Requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience, with at least 2 years’ experience in data analytics; pharma experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Expert in analytics tools and best practices, (visualization tools, text mining tools) and proficient in computer programming and applications. Expertise in SQL and Tableau is required. Working knowledge of Python, R, i2e and/or SAS is preferred
  • Comprehensive technical expertise in analytics (text mining tools, computer programming languages, visualization tools, etc.); Considered a technical SME in analytics
