The Position

As a member of the Strategic Market Intelligence team, the primary purpose of this role will be to become a value-added partner to the Cardiovascular and Emerging Therapies cross functional teams vis-a-vis driving the generation of holistic evidence-based strategic insights and tactical guidance through execution of data analytics and market research with customers. The CI&A manager will work and collaborate with multiple levels of management and cross functional teams. Develop, implement and lead strategic custom market research, as well as integrate multiple data assets (internal/external), and inputs from field business insights to inform and shape the development and implementation of business plans, activity plans and support forecast assumptions. Drive superior decision-making to support the achievement of Novo Nordisk P&L goals for assigned products. Collaborate with marketing, Global Insights, medical and key cross-functional teams in developing a strategic vision via in-depth market and brand-specific analyses.  Synthesize and simplify information to ensure timely decision making and develop innovative solutions to unstructured problems with minimal guidance.

 

This position will mainly support New Product Planning and pipeline assets and responsibilities will cover a mix of therapy areas, market shaping efforts, and pre-launch planning for pipeline assets.

 

Relationships

Reports to Associate Director/Director, Strategic Market Insights. Supports current assets, future pipeline and Cardiovascular and Emerging Therapies Responsibilities will cover a mix of existing assets, additional indications, and future acquired assets. Internal relationships and interactions with key business partners including Marketing, Global Commercial Planning, Commercial Insights & Analytics, Strategic Finance, Legal, and relevent medical team members. Collaborate with market research, and analytics team members to manage multiple projects, to achieve specific research goals as assigned.  External relationships include interactions with outside consultants and research partners.

 

Essential Functions

  • Collaboration & communication:
    • Closely collaborates and communicates with other members of CI&A Advance Analytics team, Strategic Market Intelligence team, US and Global Market Research Functional team, shares project experience and best practices. Collaborates and contributes to overall activity management of Strategic Market Intelligence team
    • Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders, including functional business colleagues, marketing team, as well as key business partners as required
    • Ensure alignment of initiatives to company’s overall vision aligned to the business strategic focus areas and departments goals

  • Consultation and internal client support:
    • Establish effective partnerships by working closely and collaboratively with business partners and associates to ensure holistic, well designed, and integrated insights to provide pragmatic recommendations based on:
      • thorough analysis of internal and external business issues and environmental factors
      • careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps
      • translating data and information into trends with business
      • taking initiative and follow-through on insights to maximize results and knowledge base
  • Inform and shape the development of business strategy and tactics for key brands and customers, as well as identify and implement best practices for developing highly impactful insights
  • Support the planning process in developing market-based, situation analyses that serve as foundational element to 3 and 5 year brand planning processes, identify issues/opportunities and associated strategies/actions to address by partnering with business analytics
  • Consult final research results to appropriate audiences, gain alignment to deliver pragmatic recommendations by contributing to the optimization of business initiatives, inclusive but not limited to:
    • marketing mix through pre-post initiative strategic and tactical custom research across channels, enhance forecast accuracy through primary research,
    • provide foundation for customer segmentation and resulting optimized, tailored sales and marketing targeting and execution efforts
    • uncover and exploit consumer and prescriber insights to ultimately enhance customer connection and build brand loyalty
    • leverage customized tracking results to identify gaps and opportunities that can be utilized to maximize build performance and blunt competitor efforts, etc.
    • Provide internal stakeholders with evidence-based guidance for new product/lifecycle planning and business plan development where appropriate
    • Takes advantage of opportunities to build on existing knowledge and leverage information from existing resources to answer questions before conducting new research initiatives
  • Market research coordination analyses and design:
    • Define, execute custom qualitative and quantitative marketing research plans, projects and business assessment providing meaningful analysis, insights and pragmatic actionable recommendations in development/support of brand/portfolio strategy and tactics and in alignment with business planning process
    • Lead in the framing of business questions, identification of information needs and development of research and data analysis plans
    • Manage the research process to deliver objective, in-depth understanding of issues and propose value-added solutions to stakeholders from concept through to final results and application via strategic proposals, presentations, training, etc.
    • Guided decision maker on what sources of data would likely be accurate and applicable for integration of market research results
    • Consult with Biopharm / Hemophila team and collaborators on proper focus and prioritization of marketing research resources against business needs
    • Manage all aspects of MR process RFP, proposal, agency selection, SOW submission, contracting, Pharmacovigilance and compliance requirements, PO generation, execution of qualitative and quantitative marketing research projects, manage project timelines, milestones and collaborations, ensure timely development and approval of research materials and stimuli, manage associated budgets, and relations with outside consultants
    • Partners with MR agency to review data, findings and insights to create succinct, clear and meaningful study reports and conclusions
    • Establish optimal partnerships with market research colleagues and cross functional analytic groups within department and across organization
  • Indepth data mining secondary business analysis:
    • Conducts hypothesis-driven investigations into detailed physician-level, patient-level and transactional-level data, to gain business insights from various customer perspectives (HCPs, patients, payers) independently or with collaboration with other analytics teams
    • Develops innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; recommendations have significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and may affect ability to achieve company goals
    • Interprets and contextualizes analytical findings within the framework of existing body of research and market trends
    • Ad hoc analyses to address issues in support of business objectives and incorporate needs and opportunity assessments
    • Analyze market trends and product performance – identify drivers of performance and provide supportive evidence
    • Work Closely with forecasting function and ensure monthly performance reviews are supported and provide guidance for data driven adjustments
    • Create and deliver monthly and quarterly business performance updates and reviews
    • Create analysis and performance reporting systems that allows brand team to see and manipulate reports
  • Leadership and development:
    • Champion the Triple Bottom Line in market research, business analytics and internal strategy consulting
    • Demonstrate creative simple approaches toward solving complex problems
    • May coach or train junior level staff on MR approaches, techniques, synthesized storytelling presentation development, business issue identification and methods for addressing, etc.
    • Pro-actively seek process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, and driving approved implementation plan
    • Strive to develop and deploy innovative market research techniques and maintain awareness of 'best practices ' across industries by maintaining a current familiarity with data sources, MR techniques and MR agencies

 

Physical Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Strong primary marketing research experience required (e.g., pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, OTC or marketing research related experience)
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, marketing experience to be considered.  Analtyics / sales analysis a plus
  • Required 3+ years primary market research experience
  • Ability to work across functions, partnering with the business partners within Novo Nordisk
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills required - able to see big picture from scattered pieces of information and present complex and disparate data in a clear and concise manner; must have an ability to see beyond the confines of MR data to broader business issues
  • Excellent verbal, writing, presentation, project management and effective influencing skills required
  • Demonstrated history of driving impact through effective relationship building partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects with conflicting deadlines, and provide recommendations that will assist in the development of business strategies
  • Strong understanding of both primary and secondary research sources (i.e. IMS Audits)
  • Work independently - Gather input about needs from business partners and set own direction accordingly
  • Experience in Pipeline product launches a plus
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Ability to work across functions, and develop productive collaborations with business partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects with conflicting deadlines, across different functions and achieving business needs from marketing and sales stake holders
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills required - able to see big picture from scattered pieces of information and present complex and disparate data in a clear and concise manner; must have an ability to see beyond the confines of MR data to broader business issues
  • Excellent verbal, writing, presentation, project management and strong influencing skills required
  • Solid communications skills with ability to succinctly express point of view and deliver clear and crisp insights, in various formats for a variety of deliverables to a diverse audience across multiple specialty areas

  • Ability to influence teams and facilitate cooperation of internal and external partners for both intelligence acquisition and recommendation acceptance
  • Strong understanding of drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management
