The Position

Corporate Sustainability & Social Impact (CSSI) is the team within Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) to formulate and implement corporate giving strategies and coordinates NNI’s commitment to corporate sustainability and our Triple Bottom Line (TBL). This position is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and management of our corporate giving, in alignment with the company's overall vision, mission, and priorities.



Internal coordination with communications, legal, and compliance. Manage external relationships with patient, community, or other organizations and stakeholders applying for grants and charitable funding. Coordinate with others in CSSI regarding grants both large and small as needed. May represent NNI at conferences.


Essential Functions

  • Drive development and implementation of strategies for NNI’s US Corporate Giving and Social Impact, ensuring that such strategies are aligned with the company’s overall mission and priorities. Formulate strategies and implement tactics that advance the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) and corporate sustainability through our corporate giving platform
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders on matters pertaining to grants and corporate giving programs, primarily legal, compliance and communications
  • Develop external relationships relevant and useful to the function to enhance NNI’s reputation and presence in communities
  • Oversee strategy, budget and programming for corporate giving to ensure alignment and outcome success. Manage grants, engage with external stakeholders, develop criteria for evaluation
  • Represent NNI through social and community engagement externally including presenting and participating at national and regional conferences
  • Oversee the philanthropic grants in Clayton, Seattle, and New Hampshire and their respective submissions in GMS. Oversee and manage the grants review and approval process for Denmark-related funding requests for U.S.-based programming, and Seattle grants as necessary
  • Strategic oversight of community programs funded by CSSI
  • Responsible for overseeing, developing and implementing standards, policies and procedures to US Corporate Giving & Social Impact to ensure the company’s US Corporate Giving and Social Impact programs operate efficiently and are in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as industry standards and guidance documents, including, among others, the PhRMA Code. Oversee company compliance in this area


Physical Requirements

10-20% overnight travel required.  Novo Nordisk requires all employees, both Field and Office-based, to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine by November 15, 2021.   • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience, including grant development or awards, corporate social responsibility and sustainability programs, corporate philanthropy, or foundations
  • Excellent organizational, planning and follow-through skills. Including attention to detail and understanding accountability models and metrics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to effectively manage projects and funding streams
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations affecting CSSI’s operations
