About the Department

The Strategy & Rare Disease (STARS) organization drives the long-term strategic direction of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI)/North America Operations (NAO) and leads all US commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The mandate of STARS is to facilitate the development and to coordinate the execution of the long-term strategy, defining a sustainable business model in US beyond a 5-year time horizon. This department serves as the insiders of the US market when informing and help shaping upstream decisions around future investments and assets. The Rare Disease portfolio includes products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic areas, new products in the pipeline, and products acquired through business development efforts in existing and new areas. The STARS team collaborates and partners with groups across NAO, Research & Early Development, Development, innovation hubs across NN, other affiliates, and global. The Position

 

The Director, Rare Disease Commercial Execution is responsible for managing and driving the execution of therapy area and brand strategies, as well as organizational priorities and commercial initiatives across the Rare Disease portfolio.

 

A key leader within the Rare Disease business unit and the Commercial Excellence team driving strategic planning, commercial operations, and extraordinary execution. Provides executive communications, meeting planning, and generalist support to enable the Commercial Excellence team and the Rare Disease LT.  Responsible for overall sales and marketing effectiveness and contributes to building best-in-class commercial capabilities.

 

Relationships

The position reports to the Sr. Director, Rare Disease Commercial Excellence and serves as a critical partner to the extended Rare Disease Leadership Team. This individual will work cross-functionally across home office and field teams on business planning, analytics, translating marketing strategy into field action, ensuring excellence in execution, and the tracking and reporting of progress towards goals. They will influence at all levels and ultimately have a significant impact on the future of the Rare Disease portfolio, helping to serve patients and providers across the Rare Disease community.

 

Essential Functions

  • Manages, builds, and enhances capabilities to drive excellence in strategic business planning, launch readiness, customer engagement, and performance monitoring, while ensuring operational efficiencies across Rare Disease.
  • Provides executive support for POA and other meetings requiring exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to translate abstract concepts and large amounts of information into clear and concise messages.
  • Partners with respective home office and field leadership functions in analyzing and identifying opportunities to accelerate performance and ensure the sales force is successfully implementing the strategic and tactical elements of the marketing plans and call plans.
  • Applies an execution lens to business trends and sales metrics, tracking progress or risks, and effectively communicating results and learnings to all relevant stakeholders.

 

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field required. MBA or equivalent preferred
  • Requires 12 years of sales, sales management or sales/marketing support experience in pharmaceuticals and/or related healthcare field
  • Experience developing and implementing annual business plans which include defining goals, strategies, tactics, and metrics
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills, with ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex constructs, storytelling, narrative development. Strong PowerPoint skills
  • Experience planning and executing a POA meeting
  • Proven success in launching a product, developing and implementing Launch KPIs, Launch execution
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills / Critical thinking
  • Leading/Influence without authority
  • Pro-active “self-starter” with strong leadership skills, executive presence and cross-functional influencing skills
  • High level of analytics and insight generation required
