The Position
This position leads the Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Monitoring & Auditing function, prioritizing data analytics, trends, and insights in alignment with evolving government expectations, to assess and mitigate identified ethics and compliance risks as part of NNI's risk management program. This role leverages innovative technology, data analytics and data insights to drive the monitoring and auditing strategy and plan. The role provides high-level strategic direction for data-driven monitoring initiatives targeting key risk areas ensuring comprehensive monitoring across all NNI departments, functions, services, and vendors. This position is accountable for delivering critical monitoring insights to internal stakeholders, enhancing program awareness, and fostering a culture of ethics and integrity across the organization. It also plays a pivotal role in coordinating local activities with global monitoring functions, in support of Novo Nordisk's overarching global ethics and compliance program.
Relationships
Reports to the Executive Director, Risk Insights & Management. Manages a team of compliance professionals focusing on Monitoring and Auditing. Internal stakeholders include E&C colleagues across Novo Nordisk globally, NNI Legal Leadership team, People & Organization, and colleagues throughout other E&C Department functional areas. Supports U.S. affiliates, including Novo Nordisk US-based research affiliates. External relationships include outside counsel, vendors, and consultants as well as developing and maintaining relationships with the broader ethics and compliance network within the industry. Partners closely with NNI and Global IT functions.
Essential Functions
- Designs and provides strategic direction and oversight of all activities related to the monitoring and auditing function based on organizational priorities and risks
- Develop and execute a comprehensive technology and data analytics strategy to support monitoring and auditing activities
- Manages a team of compliance professionals to ensure robust monitoring of NNI departments, functions, services, and vendors in line with Ethics & Compliance program needs
- Provides strategic direction to design data-driven monitoring initiatives focused on key risk areas
- Coordinates local activities with global monitoring & auditing functions in support of Novo Nordisk’s global monitoring and auditing program
- Supports global E&C audits of NNI, partnering with global auditors and NNI employees to assist with the execution of the audit and follow-up on any remediation actions
- Reviews and analyses high risk activities, transactions, documents, and process controls to detect potential non-compliance
- Develops effective remediation solutions to mitigate identified risks or instances of non-compliance
- Works closely with the E&C Trends & Insights team and cross-functional partners (e.g., Commercial Insights & Analytics) to develop and improve risk-based, data-driven, and targeted monitoring initiatives
- Collaborates with the E&C Business Partner team to design monitoring initiatives and share key insights and trends
- Keeps abreast of business and industry related high-risk activities to inform annual monitoring plans
- Responsible for the preparation and delivery of monitoring insights and presentations to internal stakeholders
- Raises awareness of the Program and fosters accountability for ethics and integrity throughout the organization
- Identify, evaluate, and implement technology and data analytics solutions that enhance compliance monitoring, reporting, and risk management
- Utilize data analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement within the compliance program
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights to senior leadership
- Oversee the implementation of technology solutions for compliance monitoring and reporting
- Represent the Ethics & Compliance function in technology and data analytics discussions with senior leadership
Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Development of People
Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve (12) years pharmaceutical, legal, regulatory, or compliance experience OR an advanced degree with a minimum of 10 years pharmaceutical, legal regulatory or compliance experience is required
- Technology and data analytics experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device compliance function is required
- Proven track record of developing and implementing technology solutions and data analytics strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge and clear understanding of the required elements of effective compliance programs as outlined in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Compliance Program Guidance and the US Federal Sentencing Guidelines
- Demonstrated knowledge and clear understanding of the Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act, FDA rules and regulations regarding the promotion of pharmaceuticals, corporate integrity agreements and other prosecution agreements with other pharmaceutical companies, PhRMA code and the current activities and developments involving pharmaceutical sales and marketing
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead change in a large, matrixed organization
- Ability to drive multiple projects to completion meeting internal and external deliverables with high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of our business, industry, market trends, requirements, and the external environment while understanding impact

- Prior experience managing professionals required
- Advanced knowledge of health care compliance issues
- Previous experience leading health care compliance monitoring and auditing efforts
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective strategic relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders

The base compensation range for this position is $235,000 to $260,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
