The Position
The Director, Market Intelligence and Portfolio Insights will leverage Competitive Intelligence methodologies to provide key insights into the biopharmaceutical landscape across clinical, commercial, and enterprise domains. This role involves applying data interpretation and trend forecasting to identify market trends, leading a high-performing team while ensuring compliance with legal standards. The Director will drive informed decision-making and strategic alignment through actionable insights and collaboration with industry experts. This role will also be responsible for driving key portfolio insights initiatives and provide recommendations guiding key strategic decisions.
 

Relationships
Reports to the VP, Enterprise Insights. Has responsibility of cultivating internal and external relationships that bring value and insights to the organization.  Internal relationships include close interactions with marketing, sales, extended brand teams (EBT), as well as global insights and analytics teams and global brand teams, and other Finance & Operations functions (Finance/Forecasting/PCOR).   External relationships include interactions with professional services, secondary data vendors and consultants.

 

Essential Functions

  • COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION:
    • Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders in Marketing and Patient Services, CMR, sales operations and relevant NAO departments; Builds diverse internal and external network for primary intelligence gathering and cross-validation.
    • Oversee development of presentations with clear storylines to communicate key conclusions and recommendations to Sr. Leadership. Modernize insight sharing to ensure NNI continues to have best in class capabilities in Market Intelligence and insight generation.
    • Drive a robust actionable insights plan for informing portfolio strategy and prioritization in collaboration with the portfolio strategy team.COMPETITIVE AND PORTFOLIO INSIGHT LEADERSHIP:
    • Conducts special projects and ad hoc requests as identified by MPS, F&O leadership and in conjunction with current and anticipated business priorities
    • Drives and directs assimilation of market intelligence to ensure that marketing, Sales operations, Market Access and Public Affairs, and enterprise function’s clinical and business decision-making is supported by timely, accurate and cost-effective data and analysis. Viewed as a functional expert in this field by internal and external stakeholders.
    • Guide cross functional portfolio teams on analytics and market research approach and methodologies for portfolio insight generation.
    • Drives development of holistic, predictive landscape assessments and oversees other ad hoc analyses to: proactively address issues in support of company objectives, operating model decision, mitigate decision risk, drive action plan development and ultimately improve commercial and clinical planning
    • Design, execute and lead all capability benchmarking projects in support of ET and MPS priorities
    • Ensure self and team effectively analyzes and triangulates disparate and often incomplete information, determines significance, assesses implications, provides analyses and communicates data to key stakeholders with recommended actions and potential counter measures as appropriate; Ensures rigorous assessment of the accuracy, validity and reliability of gathered information
    • Ensure intelligence actions and insight efforts are well aligned and integrated into North American planning process, including any associated work streams.
    • Ensure self and team maintains high level of awareness of developments in the relevant scientific and commercial world specifically in the future disease areas, as well as developing relevant skills and techniques in spirit of best-in-class CI leadership
    • Lead development business development analytical due-diligence in alignment with Commercial Insights & Analytics vision and organizational priorities.
    • Leads and provides actionable recommendations based on a) thorough analysis of internal and external business issues and environmental factors b) careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps c) translating data into trends with estimated business impact; proactively translates business challenges into research briefings and analysis
    • Accountable for all US primary market intelligence initiatives inclusive of enterprise benchmarking projects.
    • Proactively plan and execute thorough cross-functional scenario planning initiatives to address key identified threats and issues affecting the organization and align efforts with the overall planning process; acts as strategic advisor in organization
  • DATA ANALYSIS and INTERORETATION:
    • Employ critical thinking skills in data interpretation to predict trends and identify opportunities across portfolio to inform strategic decision making.
    • Apply financial intelligence methodologies to assess market viability, supporting informed investment and strategic choices
  • LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT:
    • Champions the Triple Bottom Line in Market Intelligence and internal strategy consulting.
    • Develops innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; recommendations have significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and may affect ability to achieve company goals.
    • Pro-actively look for process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, driving approved implementation plan to advance team capabilities, improve internal efficiencies and drive toward continued best-in-class functional leadership
  • LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE STANDARDS
    • Ensure self and team follows formal protocols and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information in accordance with SCIP and Novo Nordisks SOP. Accountable for recommendations for continuous improvement of CI policy 

 

Physical Requirements

  • 10-20% overnight travel required

 

Development of People

  • Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
  • Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
  • Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
     

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor 's degree with at least twelve years of relevant experience in, Competitive Intelligence, Commercial Insights, marketing, sales, business analytics, or pharmaceutical consulting required, or an MBA with at least ten years of relevant experience required.    
  • Experience in market strategy development, brand development, insights    
  • Minimum of five years of management experience required.    
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, environment, with a quality control focus and a documentation orientation    
  • Innate intellectual curiosity, demonstrated desire to take initiative, and ability to think creatively to solve complex problems    
  • Ability to effectively integrate and communicate insights to Senior Management teams, synthesize complex information, making it relevant, understandable and actionable for internal stakeholders    
  • Persuasive and credible communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated capability to partner with cross functional colleagues    
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize and follow through in a timely manner as well as anticipate potential roadblocks.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide structure to ambiguous situations and to proactively identify and define the need for specific analyses and programs, as well as driving foresight

The base compensation range for this position is $ 181,670 to $ 317,920. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. 

 

Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
