The Position
Provide legal counsel to global healthcare company on relevant issues involving application of U.S. law, regulations, and industry standards.
 
Relationships
Acts as counsel for particular stakeholder group(s) within the Market Access & Public Affairs department and interacts with headquarters and other affiliates as required. Interacts with Legal Department colleagues and various other functions within Novo Nordisk. May interact with government agencies, law firms, trade organizations and other external agencies. Reports to Deputy General Counsel.


Essential Functions

  • Provides advice and counsel to stakeholder group(s), acting as primary legal support for the US Public Affairs team, including Federal & State Government Affairs, Policy, Alliance Development, and US Corporate Sustainability & Social Impact.
  • Proactively prevents or minimizes legal risk to the Company and helps drive legal strategy to achieve enterprise goals.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of the company’s business and industry landscape and understands strategic imperatives.
  • Supports the drafting and review of agreements from various departments within the organization, including sponsorship agreements, collaboration agreements, association memberships, and grant agreements; engages in contract negotiation as necessary.    
  • Keeps informed of pending and newly enacted laws, regulations, government policies, and industry trends affecting the company and assists with development of policies and training as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by senior management.
  • Reviews Company policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

 
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • A J.D. is required.  
  • A state bar admission is required.    
  • 4+ years of legal experience required; in house experience preferred.    
  • Experience within the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry preferred though not required.    
  • Strong problem-solving skills - demonstrates and exercises creativity and initiative.    
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills - able to effectively collaborate and communicate with other client groups within the company.
