The Position
The Associate Director, CMR Operational Excellence will be responsible for the transformational improvement and strong execution of critical operational processes across CMR such as contracting, budgets, and governmental R&D spend reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong financial and operational background and also a proven ability to deliver transformational process improvements via technology implementation and fit-for-purpose process improvement. The candidate will ensure the timely delivery, accuracy, and transparency of the entire CMR GVP/SVP budget and projections to the GVP/SVP of CMR and ensuring alignment with R&D and NNI strategies and strategy execution. The candidate is also responsible for development of, and execution of, a strategy for CMR transformation of business processes, in close collaboration with other initiatives both within NNI and in R&D. As needed, the Assoc Dir, CMR Operational Excellence will be able to cover for enabling operation individual contributors who support individual CMR VP/AVP areas. In fulfilment of these goals, the Assoc Director will need to build strong relationships, communicate clearly, and drive alignment with stakeholders and/or business partners both within CMR and also within NNI and global functions.
Relationships
The Assoc Director reports to the Director, Strategic Support, within CMR. The incumbent works closely with associate directors, directors, VP/AVPs, and other senior leadership across the organization, including Legal, Finance, and other Functions within USO Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) and in global R&D.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for developing and implementing transformation of CMR business processes and related resourcing estimates across all CMR VP/AVP areas
- As needed, develops executive level communications to support strategic transformation initiatives
- Leads or participates in strategic efforts (e.g., annual business planning, scenario planning) on behalf of CMR for the greater NNI or NNA/S organization and aligned to enterprise strategic direction and NN Way. This can include driving organizational alignment, identifying and mitigating risks and ensuring alignment with overall business unit and enterprise goals
- Lead for ensuring budget, contracting, and transparency training for relevant associates throughout CMR, and acts as backup as needed
- Lead for any cross-CMR requests for budget or resource summaries or analyses, such as in resource planning or government transparency reporting
- Subject matter expert and primary liaison for cross-CMR budget, contract, and resource questions
- Works with business partners inside and outside of CMR to ensure resource strategies are being implemented into their responsible VP/AVP area and monitors progress throughout the year. This includes following local and HQ level models, strategies, or initiatives, as required
- Responsible for ensuring fit-for-purpose training and processes across CMR for PO creation, contracting, invoice tracking, and invoice discrepancy troubleshooting
- Collect and ensure responsibility of CMR LT area resource projections
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among business operations within CMR and NNI and also globally, partnering across global R&D
- As needed, ensures accuracy and transparency of VP/AVP operating budgets by following company budget timelines and by conducting accruals, chargebacks, and reallocations
- As needed, primary point of contact for coordinating governmental transparency reporting within CMR
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Minimum of 10 years experience required, with 2+ years direct experience with business planning or finance or similar
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and drive leading edge digital transformation
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage short- and long-term priorities while working with time sensitive deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and ability to speak to all levels of an organization
- Ability to solve problems and present solutions
- Advanced capability in Excel, PowerPoint and Word required; SAP experience is a plus
- High level of independence, integrity, and accountability
The base compensation range for this position is $160,000 to $250,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
