About the Department
The Strategy & Executive Office (SEO) organization is responsible for setting the short, mid, and long-term strategy for Novo Nordisk, Inc and ensures flawless execution of our key priorities. This encompasses long-term strategic planning, empowering and supporting leaders to successfully execute on strategic priorities, as well as driving and delivering high impact enterprise and business unit projects deemed critical to our future success. Furthermore, the Executive Office is responsible for supporting the President of NNI directly to ensure the pull through of priorities to set the direction for the entire organization.
The Position
Responsible for leading the development and evolution of overall company strategy for US Operations to drive sustainable growth. This leadership role entails spearheading the strategic roadmap for US Operations, involving extensive collaboration with senior US Operations and Global stakeholders. Additionally, this position is focused on collaborating with leaders to identify and translate an evolving macro healthcare environment into cross-organizational strategic decisions and priorities that are most critical for the future success of the company and builds strategic plans to drive growth and longer-term value. Close collaboration with the Director of Enterprise Strategy Activation is essential to ensure strategic shifts and business implications are accurately accounted into strategy management processes.
Relationships
Reports to the Vice President – US Operations Strategy. Internal interactions may include USBD Executive Team, Executive Office, USO LT, functional leads, Corporate Strategy, and other HQ counterparts to ensure strategic coordination across Novo Nordisk. Partners closely with Associate Director- Enterprise Strategy Activation. External relationships may include interactions with various subject matter experts and vendors based on the needs of special projects or implementation of new programs.
Essential Functions
- Ecosystem Monitoring and Analysis
- Actively monitor the healthcare ecosystem, including regulatory changes, technological advancements, and market trends, to develop strategic implications for the organization's positioning, growth, and long-term sustainability
- Strategic Roadmap Development and Oversight
- Create and oversee the development of a comprehensive strategic roadmap, aligning with organizational mid/long-term ambition and priorities, while ensuring adaptability to changing market dynamics and emerging opportunities
- Mid to Long-Term Business Strategy Management
- Actively evolve the 3-5 year business strategy for Novo Nordisk, Inc., ensuring clear and focused strategic direction and alignment for US Operations. Identify enterprise-level strategic opportunities for US Operations that help the organization gain a competitive advantage. Identify, assess, and manage strategic risks by developing proactive mitigation strategies and ensuring alignment with the organization's risk appetite and overall strategic objectives
- Strategic Initiatives
- Identify and define (and in some cases lead) strategic initiatives for the company, focusing on long-term strategy development and driving decision-making to ensure successful execution of key initiatives
- Executive Engagement
- Provide US Operations perspective to strategic topics discussed at major leadership forums, including Board of Directors, Executive Management and Management Board
- Corporate Strategy Alignment
- Partner with Corporate Strategy to ensure US relevant inputs are accounted for in Corporate Strategy themes, discussions, and decisions that reflect the significance of the US market
- Influence and Collaboration
- Develop relationships, influence and followership within a global matrixed organization and impact decision-making at various levels of the organization, while aligning across corporate and business lines for strategy harmonization. Provide insightful thought leadership on latest trends, opportunities, and focus areas for the company's growth and success
- Innovation
- Foster continuous improvement through implementing best practices for enterprise strategy development, ensuring methodologies are current and aligned with industry standards. Incorporate innovative tools and approaches to enhance strategic planning, scenario analysis, and decision-making processes
- External Partnership and Industry Engagement
- Cultivate external partnerships and engage with industry stakeholders to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, leveraging external insights to inform and enhance the organization's strategic development and execution
- Team dynamics
- Be a leader amongst peers, and to the broader organization, foster a collaborative team environment, empower individuals to drive innovation, achieve strategic goals, and adapt to evolving market demands while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with the Director of Enterprise Strategy Activation to ensure timely and accurate integration of strategy evolution into strategy management processes
Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; MBA preferred
- 10+ years of progressively relevant corporate business strategy development and planning, marketing and brand management, consulting, commercial operations experience required; pharmaceutical or CPG industries strongly preferred
- Business case development, management consulting, strategy, or finance experience preferred
- Understanding of the external marketplace and familiarity in cross company therapy areas preferred
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with senior management and communicate effectively to the highest level of executives
- Strong decision-making skills through demonstrated ability to leverage evidenced-based insights and sound judgement into strategy development, deployment and optimization
- Project management, process development and change management experience a plus
- Ability to manage competing priorities; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to streamline and simplify complex concepts for broader audience
- Proven cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to influence multiple levels of leadership
- People management/team development experience preferred
The base compensation range for this position is $ 148,290 to $ 259,510. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
