The Position

As the Associate Director of Strategic Market Insights, the functional responsibilities include leading analyses of market opportunities, customer primary market research, competitors, market trends, industries, and other external issues as directed and set by Sr. Director, Enterprise Market Intelligence ; enhancing company marketplace position by leveraging knowledge gained about competitive environment and target customers; supporting development of innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems, including the use of scenario planning; exerting influence to ensure goals and objectives of the department are met. The AD Strategic Market Intelligence leads and supports the discovery, consolidation and communication of key trends, opportunities, threats and implications related to Novo Nordisk's external environment and provides strategic, evidence-based decision-making to Executive Team and other leadership teams overseeing the Cardiometabolic portfolio and the pipeline and portfolio strategy teams. Serves as the Market Insight strategic advisor across the portfolio and the Pipeline strategy teams providing insight advisory including of primary market research, data analytics, and primary market research.

 

Relationships

This position reports to the Sr. Director, Enterprise Market Intelligence. Collaborates closely with Therapy Area leadership teams, Portfolio and Pipeline Strategy teams, Enterprise Strategy, Sales leadership, Enterprise Insights and Analytics team members, Global commercial and New Product Planning teams, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Market Access. Collaborates closely with Enterprise Insights colleagues to ensure relevant insights are developed in support of portfolio strategy, prioritization, and resource allocation decisions. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors. Facilitates collaboration among necessary NNI and global stakeholders and engages in continuous communication to ensure effective stakeholder management.

 

May supervise junior team members, interns and/or contingent workers. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors.

 

Essential Functions

  • Collaboration & communication:
    • Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders, across Therapy Area Commercial Strategy and Marketing, Enterprise Strategy, CMR, sales operations and relevant NNAS departments; Build diverse internal and external network for primary intelligence, market research, and strategic advisory support
    • Develop presentations with clear storylines to communicate key conclusions and recommendations. Effectively communicate timely critical information to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Strategy advisory:
    • Collaborate with Strategy teams to identify potential business opportunities that fuel NNI’s mid-to-long growth
    • Lead the development of strategic projects and solutions to address insight and knowledge gaps. Conducts cross functional projects inclusive on primary market research, competitive intelligence, benchmarking, and secondary data analytics
    • Represent Enterprise Insight in business development discussions, due diligence assessment; ensure concise synthesis of research findings, communicated in the context of decision drivers and key business decisions that are tailored to specific audiences
    • Leverage broad decision-influence role to provide strategic, insight-driven recommendations to expand NNI’s portfolio and market impact on key therapy areas; Leads the development of market insights capabilities with pipeline assets while serving as the insights lead across the various key projects within the portfolio
  • Competitive intelligence consultation:
    • Manage the gathering of information from a variety of internal and external sources regarding key Therapy Areas, strategic projects. Develops holistic (clinical, commercial, managed markets), predictive landscape assessments and performs other ad hoc analyses to: proactively address issues in support of business objectives, mitigate decision risk, drive action plan development and ultimately improve commercial planning
    • Independently provides actionable recommendations based on a) thorough analysis of internal and external business issues, market analysis, disease areas landscape, and secondary research and environmental factors b) careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps c) translating data into trends with estimated business impact; proactively translates business challenges into research briefings and analysis
    • Leads development of a strategic insights plans in conjunction with Senior Director Enterprise Intelligence and incorporate market research and analytics needs and opportunity assessments with stakeholders across
    • Collaborate with Enterprise Insights and Advance Analytics to ensure complete and consistent communications and develops and presents executive briefs based on key market disruptors
    • Ensure concise synthesis of research findings, communicated in the context of decision drivers and key business decisions that are tailored to specific audiences
    • Ensure self and others follow formal protocols and policies for Competitive Intelligence and conducting Primary Market Research
    • Ensure the most relevant US market assessments are communicated to global in support of the forecasting process
    • Provide relevant input to the ongoing budget planning process (AB/RE/SPP)
    • Provide rigorous assessment of the accuracy, validity and reliability of gathered information
  • Leadership and development:
    • Champion the Triple Bottom Line in Market Intelligence and internal strategy consulting
    • Develop innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; make recommendations that have a significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and potentially affect the company’s ability to achieve its goals
    • Pro-actively seek process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, driving approved implementation plan to advance team capabilities and improve internal efficiencies
    • Provide guidance to consultants, and other junior team members to enhance their skills, knowledge, and experience to improve market intelligence, primary research and analysis and executive outputs
    • Strive to maintain awareness of 'best practices' in competitive intelligence across industries by maintaining a current familiarity with data sources, trends, techniques, agencies

 

Physical Requirements

Supervisory

Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

 

Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

 

Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a science discipline. Master 's degree preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years ' related experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry, (6) years ' in a business analysis or similar environment. Solid experience drawing commercial implications from clinical results
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Ability to influence people and facilitate cooperation of internal and external partners for both intelligence acquisition and recommendation acceptance
  • Ability to structure and present qualitative data in a compelling and convincing fashion, strong writing, presentation, and project management skills
  • Analytical and strategic thinking - able to see the big picture from scattered pieces of information; Ability to collect and synthesize complex information, making it relevant, understandable and actionable for key stakeholders
  • Excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to understand complex, undefined project needs and take a logical approach to planning projects, organizing work and communicating clinical intelligence
  • Networking - positively interacts with any relevant source of information. Builds strong relationships
  • Proficient and comfortable with Primary Market Research, secondary data analytics, searching and reviewing scientific literature, clinical trial data, journal studies Progressive demonstrated business experience, preferably with a background in securities research and/or in a strategic consulting capacity with some prior competitive intelligence experience preferred
  • Proven search and research skills including experience with the use of online databases (scientific, business, patent, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management
  • Strong understanding of the intelligence cycle, especially collection, assessment, and management of primary data
  • Work independently with ability to guide members of team toward achieving objectives and set direction of self and others accordingly
