About the Department
The Cardiometabolic Marketing Team leads the US marketing efforts for Novo Nordisk’s robust cardiometabolic product portfolio, which includes world class therapies for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and other serious chronic diseases. As part of the team, you will contribute to the development and delivery of our portfolio vision, business strategies, and tactical plans that drive our business forward. You will help to drive the NNI portfolio and Brand strategies to ensure the products reach the people who need them most.
The Position
This position is accountable for:
- Developing and implementation of product business plans for HCP Promotion (which will include pre-launch and or launch activities related to a potential new cardiovascular indication for select brand/s, creating key strategic imperatives, positioning & messaging for HCP marketing initiatives across the obesity brands as it relates to the potential cardiovascular indication to achieve Novo Nordisk P&L goals.
- Developing & ensuring the alignment of cardiovascular HCP personal promotion brand positioning and messaging.
- Developing & implementing the HCP personal promotion annual brand tactical plans through the development of brand strategies, communications strategies, positioning, etc.
- Lead and coordinate enterprise-wide efforts for the launch of the potential cardiovascular indication
- Participating on the Extended Brand Team (EBT) for designated brand and provides key input into the brand planning process.
- Participating on cross-functional project teams and interacting extensively with other functions within Novo Nordisk
- Participating in select global planning teams.

Relationships
Reports to The Sr Brand Director for Obesity HCP Personal Promotion. Works closely with other Brand teams, Market Access, and Commercial Operations and Effectiveness. Works in close collaboration with other departments such as Field Sales, Managed Care, Trade and Government, Medical, Regulatory, Legal as well as participating on global project teams. External relationships include professional services vendors such as agencies, consultants, market research vendors etc.
Essential Functions
BRAND LEADERSHIP/PLANNING:
- Develops accurate short and long-term plans, forecasting, and business analysis for area of responsibility within HCP personal promotion. Ensures timely execution and follow-up, meets deadlines, prioritizes projects and time, anticipate problems and roadblocks to avoid crisis management.
- Develops and executes the overall brand plan for designated projects - develops personal HCP promotional materials; ensures alignment of brand positioning, messaging and overall objectives. Identifies and implements improvements to prepare for launch, development and/or life cycle activities for the brand: this includes in-depth market analysis, market research, etc.
- Develops and presents compelling HCP personal promotion plans for management endorsement.
- Leads the development of annual strategic product plan for assigned area of responsibility, utilizing input of extended brand teams. This includes working with the relevant areas to ensure in-depth market analysis, effective market research activities, etc
- Manages all aspects of the marketing mix including promotion, product positioning, vendor partnerships, and changes as it relates to the strategic and tactical plans.
- Champions the Triple Bottom Line in development of brand strategy and tactical initiatives.
- Works closely with field sales to ensure marketing programs that are developed strongly support their direct and indirect needs with customers to drive appropriate ROI.
- Works effectively with international colleagues to define: new product launches, campaign development, competitive defense and strategic evolution of the product within designated areas.
- Works effectively with key support functions to ensure alignment with the brand objectives and goals.
- Develops relationships with and receives commitment from relevant NNI and NNAS departments to ensure the successful execution of strategies.
MARKET & PROGRAM ANALYSES/PRODUCT INVESTMENT:
- Manages brand positioning messages and key objectives
- Measures ROI on all implemented programs and ensures tracking of implemented programs are reported in a timely manner to all stakeholders.
- Spearheads the development of market research plans.
- Effectively addresses competitive obstacles relevant to designated projects through the course of the year to ensure brand success
- Accountable to manage the designated project budget process - makes sound decisions to optimize spend and ensure that resources are appropriately allocated and quality of services are maintained while costs remain on track and according to budget. Monitor agency expenses by looking for opportunities to maximize value while minimizing agency costs. Follow internal and external procedures in managing contracts. Regularly tracks and reconciles expenses to ensure budget is on track.
- Maximizes revenue and profitability and understands return on investment (ROI) concepts to ensure program effectiveness.
- Understands the definition of the market and develops accurate projections/forecasts for designated product.
- Consistently reviews performance dashboards and identifies opportunities for marketing/sales partnership based on trend review
- Works in collaboration with Insight and Analytics colleagues to develop short and long term forecast inputs
- In partnership with Insight and Analytics colleagues, understand drivers of sales performance and develop/deploy resources as needed
Physical Requirements
25-30% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Minimum seven (7) years of progressive sales and brand management/marketing experience within the pharmaceutical industry required, of which at least two (2) years were in a Senior Brand Manager role or equivalent
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, MBA preferred
- Experience in cardiovascular disease preferred
- Extensive knowledge and experience in designing and implementing project plans
- Experienced in analyzing sales performance and market trends and develop/deploy resources appropriately.
- Proven track record in new product marketing preferred
- Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical marketplace including medical, regulatory and clinical processes
