The Position

Manage all activities relating to environmental, health & safety programs & personnel, to include providing leadership & support in attaining an environmentally sound design & safe working environment. Manage efficient & reliable EHS processes that meet requirements in a cost-effective manner. Meet or exceed business & regulatory requirements in accordance with Novo Nordisk Way. Ensure positive working relationships with internal & external stakeholders and a continuous alignment of scope/schedule/cost & risk.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the site ISO14001 Environmental Management system
  • Responsible for the site ISO18001 OHSA Management system
  • Responsible for development of site environmental and safety strategies, objectives and targets, including but not limited to Circular for Zero (C4Z)
  • Monitor and report site performance within environment and safety
  • Responsible for compliance to all applicable government EHS regulatory approvals & permits
  • Development & leadership of multi-disciplined EHS team to drive accountability & results in accordance with NN Way
  • Responsible for EHS Management system including but not limited to life safety, process safety management & security
  • Responsible for adherence to major milestones, budget & schedules
  • Ensure collaboration within NN to gain best practices for system/process development
  • Continuous process improvement using cLEAN® tools
  • Responsible for monitoring & reporting site performance within environment, health, safety & security
  • Responsible for the site emergency response including equipment inspections, fire alarm operations & site drill coordination
  • Establish & maintain waste management programs & ensure compliance with the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act requirements (RCRA)
  • Follow all safety, financial & environmental requirements in performance of duties
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

 

Physical Requirements

May move equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. May be required to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May required corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require colour vision based on role. May require the ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection.

 

Development Of People

Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures and Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related technical field of study from an accredited university with a minimum of eight (8) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in a pharmaceutical or other complex industrial/chemical manufacturing environment
  • May consider an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related technical field of study from an accredited college or university with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in a pharmaceutical or other complex industrial/chemical manufacturing environment
  • May consider a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in a pharmaceutical or other complex industrial/chemical manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct leadership experience required
  • Proven knowledge of state, federal & local safety & environmental regulations required
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills with ability to adapt technical knowledge to deliver to non-technical personnel required
  • Thorough understanding & ability to read & interpret technical documents such as P&ID, CAD drawings, SAT, FAT & Validation Protocols preferred
  • Understanding of complicated product documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts required
  • Understanding of contractual documents & ability to create work plans & detailed project schedules required
  • Computer literacy with associated systems preferred
  • Professional certifications (PE, CHMM, CSP\ASP) preferred
  • Proven expertise in mentoring/development, planning/organizing & managing execution required
  • Revising the work plan for complex problems solved by cross functional teams required
