Research Scientist - Sequencing Technologies

The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled research scientist with a PhD or a Master’s degree in life science to join our team in Oxford. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing methods and automating DNA and RNA sequencing, analysing data, and troubleshooting issues.

In your day to day work you would be in charge of:

  • Developing and implementing methods for DNA and RNA sequencing, including sequencing library preparation in high throughput format.
  • Optimising and automating established methods to improve throughput and efficiency.
  • Contributing to maintenance of in-house sequencing platforms.
  • Analysing data and troubleshooting issues
  • Collaborating with other researchers and communicating results.

 

Qualifications

We are searching for a highly collaborative and communicative scientist who meets the following criteria:

  • PhD degree in molecular biology or a related field or a Masters’ degree with relevant experience
  • Experience with sequencing technologies and molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR and qPCR.
  • Basic bioinformatic and data analysis skills
  • NGS sequencing library preparation

 

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience of handling large numbers of samples
  • Experience of using and NGS platform technologies eg. Illumina Sequencing platform and/or Nanopore technologies
  • Experience of working with single cell sequencing

Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford (NNRCO) is one of Novo Nordisk’s Global Drug Discovery research sites focused on biology and target discovery across the broad spectrum of cardiometabolic disease in Oxford, United Kingdom. Our location in the heart of the University of Oxford medical campus enables two-way collaborations with some of the best medical scientists in the world.

 

Our mission at the Target Discovery Engine (TDE), Oxford is to identify and validate novel drug targets by efficiently developing scalable approaches, fuelled by data and digital solutions. We utilize human-centric in vitro screening approaches aligned with our therapeutic area and portfolio requirements with the aim to identify targets and key biology to discover new disruptive therapeutics.

 

The Target Accelerator Group within the TDE has specialists and staff scientists in its sub-teams of Technology Leaders, Assay Architects and Data Engines. We are a dedicated, collaborative team of scientists working with a variety of advanced technologies, including automation and screening, high-content imaging, single-cell sequencing, CRISPR editing, proteomics and peptidomics. We collaborate very closely with the Discovery Biology Group, continually working on strategies to develop new disease models to fuel targets for unmet medical need. Together, we share a passion for translational research and a desire to discover new scientific paths to improve the lives of patients.
