Strategic Operations Manager

THE POSITION

Supports Medical Affairs through managing a full scope of assignments, including local Strategic Operations projects, the cross-functional KOL engagements in support of the IEP (Individual Engagement Planning) strategy, Medical Education initiatives, and key global programs made available to the affiliate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Project Management 50%
    • Works closely with the Associate Director and Medical Advisors in the cardio-renal team to build depth of understanding of the strategic priorities of the unit and fulfils projects related to these goals
    • Act as a resource for the cross functional team to build or augment the medical strategy to suit the Canadian environment and implement projects aligned with these aims
    • Works cross-functionally with Marketing, Patient Access and Public Affairs, Medical Affairs to ensure alignment of the plan and the emerging needs of the affiliate are met
    • Develops and executes an efficient, clear and concise internal communication strategy for MA projects to ensure understanding at all levels of management and within the core team of MA projects. Ensures all participants are fully aware of their tasks, timelines and responsibilities, and provides updates on a regular basis
    • Advocates for relevant KOL utilization within programming to fulfil IEP strategy
    • Acts as a liaison between Field and Head Office Medical Affairs to ensure a positive alignment between trial clinicians, KOL researchers and KOL speakers for current and future products
    • Works with MSL management to ensure cascading of relevant Medical Affairs projects into field-based tactics
    • Supports follow through on Global planning processes (i.e., XLAP plans)
    • Co-ordinates pre-launch scientific activities and ensures the appropriate KOLs are prioritized as faculty and/or delegates
    • Guide the implementation of tracking and reporting systems for the department
    • Guides team through PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) process after major projects are completed to seek excellence in PM
    • Builds IT capabilities, including competencies with Globeshare as a main hub for access to information on projects
    • Manages internal databases related to project metrics and KOL engagement (i.e., MAPT, DxD, Polaris, LMP)
    • Manages budget for projects, including PO creation, GR deadlines and department variances
  • Medical Education 30%
    • Responsible for delivering all aspects of multiple, complex medical education projects on time and on budget
    • Establish a suitable modus operandi to design and drive med ed activities across the NNCI portfolio related to medical affairs
    • Understands the landscape of accreditation in Canada for GPs and Specialists (including additional nuances for Quebec)
    • Identifies early on in the process resources required to complete projects
    • Stays up-to-date on tools and strategies to achieve PM targets in a more efficient manner and increase productivity, collaboration and communication within teams
    • Works effectively with vendors and provides feedback to ensure continuous process improvement
    • Works to ensure the appropriate KOLs are utilized as speakers or content developers and involved in key NNCI events
    • Acts as a local expert for understanding how to create OLAs and certified/accredited programs, based on NN and IMC guidelines
  • Strategic Projects 20%
    • Serves as the conduit for bringing relevant MA information from the field to the head office and vice versa
    • Integrates KOL strategies, tactics and engagement plans national and regional levels, ensuring that MSLs’ KOL plans are aligned with, and supportive of, national strategies
    • Develops rationale and business case for Executive Team when funds are required to bring about new medical strategic imperatives
    • Develop a performance and outcomes driven approach to Medical Affairs projects
    • Involved in aiding departmental understanding of legislative changes impacting HCPs, including transparency of Transfer of Value (ToV) and payment disclosures
    • In relation to key international and national scientific conferences, holds cross-functional meetings and develops plans for HCP engagement with key NNCI functions (Executive Team, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Sales)
    • Aids affiliate in understanding the influence cascade within the therapeutic area through strategic mapping and projects associated with KOLs, IPAs and hospital networks
    • Creates aligned KOL strategies and mutually beneficial projects, acts as a conduit to engage and involve field Medical Affairs into national Medical Affairs strategies

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Works in an open-office environment with exposure to multiple demands, deadlines and interruptions. Little exposure to hazards while performing the duties of the job.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Certifications:
    • University degree, advanced degree an asset (scientific or MBA preferred)
    • Bilingualism in English and French preferred
    • PMP or Six Sigma designation an asset
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years’ relevant project management experience (Marketing/CHE/Strategic Operations)
    • Project management knowledge and experience in managing cross-functional and complex projects

    • Strong communication skills; oral, written, formal presentations to senior management and top KOLs in the field
