ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) department at Novo Nordisk Canada is one of the most diverse and collaborative groups within the organization. From health-care-provider interactions and developing and implementing regulatory strategies with Health Canada to providing medical education and collecting data to support evidence and new product development, CMR is involved. The Medical Operations team, consisting of Customer Care, Medical Information, Medical Education, Medical Training, Grants and Donations, and Medical Omnichannel, is focused on building excellence and delivering value for the organization and our healthcare ecosystem customers.

 

THE POSITION

The Medical Trainer supports the business by facilitating the development of capabilities required by CMR personnel to achieve ever higher levels of on-the-job performance.  They consult with CMR and field leadership and partner with internal and external stakeholders to continuously evaluate knowledge and skill gaps in CMR and fill these gaps through the design and delivery of strategic learning and development initiatives. These initiatives integrate adult learning principles and sound instructional design and always aim to deliver elevated on the job performance and facilitate the achievement of business objectives.

 

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

Assessment: Collaborate with internal and external partners to design and analyze performance assessments to uncover knowledge and skill gaps related to core capabilities in CMR.  Act as a performance consultant to CMR and field leadership to understand root causes of performance gaps and design and deliver tailored training solutions to address them.   

 

Design and Deliver:   Partner with internal and external partners as needed to design and deliver impactful learning and development initiatives that will result in measurable improvement in on-the-job performance and facilitate the achievement of defined CMR business/strategic objectives.  This includes the development of live or virtual in-person training sessions, e-module development and/or other learning modalities.

 

Evaluation:  Document the outcomes of learning and development initiatives to demonstrate the impact of the training on learner performance and to enable continuous improvement of training offerings.  

 

Learning Management System Optimization:   Ensure that learning management systems are used to effectively support learning by making learning assets easily accessible, creating an engaging and interactive learning environment and tracking progress towards defined learning goals. 

 

Create and Present Strategic Training Plans:  Present strategic training plans and priorities to CMR and field leadership teams highlighting the measurable impact of training initiatives on improved learner performance and towards the achievement of CMR business/strategic objectives.

 

Future Capabilities:  Continuously scan the healthcare environment and analyze emerging trends in the pharmaceutical industry and CMR functions that will inform the need for future organizational capabilities.  Continuously identify, adapt and apply external learning and development best practices and technologies from various sources including attending L&D congresses.

 

Learning Culture:  Foster a learning culture by promoting a growth mindset and delivering compelling training initiatives that help learners build confidence and elevate their personal performance.

 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Creates and manages yearly project budget and tracks monthly. 
  • Ad-hoc requests or special projects as required. 

 

 

KEY COMPLIANCE

Complies with all Canadian external policies (Health Canada, IMC, BIOTEC Canada, etc.) and governance as well as Novo Nordisk BECF (Business Ethics Compliance Framework), SOPs, policies, procedures, vision and ways of working.

 

EDUCATION (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioscience, Lifesciences, Biotechnology or equivalent in relevant area. Advanced degree such as Master’s/PhD degree in related science areas or MBA preferred.

Preferred Education Requirement:

  • Master’s/PhD/MBA

 

EXPERIENCE (Minimum Requirements)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry
  • Ability to think strategically to develop training plans that are aligned with organizational and CMR business goals
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Solid understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system, pharmaceutical industry and CMR functions
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, formal presentations)
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and externals stakeholder partners    

Preferred Experience Requirement:

  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical company preferably in Medical Affairs

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a field-based role with preference for the incumbent to be based in the GTA or Ontario. Individuals located in the GTA or Ontario are expected to work in a hybrid capacity from the head office.
  • Job travel is expected to be 10 – 15%
