Specialist Modelling Scientist in Silico Peptide Discovery
Aspire to become an impactful in silico designer in the pharmaceutical industry.
The Department
The In Silico Peptide Discovery team, part of Digital Chemistry and Design, is comprised of enthusiastic modellers who foster close collaboration to drive innovation across our peptide portfolio. We apply fit‑for‑purpose computational methods — from AI and machine learning to cheminformatics and structure-based modelling — to drive project success. We work with chemists, pharmacologists, biophysicists, other experimental scientists and in silico groups to apply cutting‑edge tools to enhance compound optimization and support portfolio progression.
About the role
We are seeking a Specialist Modelling Scientist in In Silico Peptide Discovery, experienced in modelling peptides and small protein formats, to drive portfolio impact and biologics innovation. Implement predictive and structure‑based methods to generate testable hypotheses. Collaborate with experimental scientists and in silico teams to optimize peptide and small biologic candidates and lead the discovery of novel molecular tools.
Key responsibilities
- Lead Digital Strategy activities to support successful execution of peptide and biologics research projects and portfolio initiatives.
- Build productive collaborations with in silico and experimental scientists to align computational efforts with project needs and expand our discovery toolbox.
- Spearhead the discovery and development of novel molecular tools to optimize properties beyond bioactivity, including biophysics and pharmacokinetics.
- Collaborate with modelling and AI scientists to expand and apply our in silico toolbox for innovative drug discovery.
- Contribute to early project ideation and assessment by identifying appropriate peptide or biologic modalities and help maturing promising initiatives.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biophysics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated track record applying computational approaches to achieve disruptive molecular design innovation and optimize compound properties for peptides and small biologics formats.
- Deep knowledge of experimental assay data and the principles of biologics–target binding, protein folding/rescaffolding, and molecular structure in solution.
- Experience developing project‑focused models (including machine learning) and translating them into measurable project impact.
- Strong coding skills and familiarity with software development best practices and tools (e.g., Python, Git/GitHub).
- Preferably 3+ years’ industry experience in biotech or pharma on peptide or biologics projects, or equivalent experience.
It would be an advantage to have prior experience integrating computational predictions into experimental workflows and decision gates, experience with biophysical or pharmacokinetics prediction models for biologics, and familiarity with cloud computing and creating reproducible in silico workflows.
