The Position
As a Principal Scientist in Advanced Drug Delivery, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Scientific Leadership: Provide strategic guidance and technical mastery in the identification and development of novel advanced drug delivery systems for oral administration of biologics.
  • Research & Development: Analyze complex data, set experimental direction, and oversee the implementation of new drug delivery methodologies.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Effectively communicate and collaborate across global sites, lead cross-functional project teams, and represent the organization through external presentations and publications.
  • Innovation & Strategy: Expand capabilities in drug delivery sciences by generating new ideas and evaluating emerging technologies. Propose and oversee external collaborations and strategic partnerships.
  • Mentorship & Training: Mentor colleagues in formulation and drug delivery sciences and contribute to the development of the research agenda in alignment with business needs.

Qualifications
We realize that few people are experts at everything. But if you can nod your head at the following attributes, then you could be the person we are looking for:

  • A PhD with several years of experience in applying advanced drug delivery research in a biotech or industrial setting.
  • Working understanding and experience within advanced drug delivery (oral, subcutaneous, topical, and alternative routes).
  • Excellent understanding of the physiology of biological barriers to drug delivery, such as the gastrointestinal tract and subcutis.
  • Track record in designing new products with enhanced bioavailability of peptides and proteins or other macromolecules, and experience with drug delivery design based on biological mechanisms and biophysical principles.
  • Experience in formulating and characterizing advanced drug delivery systems, including tableting, spray-drying/freeze-drying, and solid-state characterization.
  • Demonstrated evidence of innovation within novel drug delivery systems and experience with developing and optimizing novel in vitro and in vivo models.
  • First-hand experience leading multi-disciplinary teams within complex projects, with strong business understanding and cross-functional stakeholder management skills; experience with driving external innovation, including academic collaborations and strategic partnerships.

About the Department
