The position
In this role you will take on the responsibility for creating, implementing and continuously refining a sound solution architecture for our future value-delivering entity registration solutions. You will be part of an interdisciplinary product team, consisting of colleagues from R&ED, DSI, and our global IT organization, and interacting with a diverse set of stakeholders across R&ED, you will ensure the successful realization of that solution architecture. You will be expected to align with other software engineers, IT architects, the product owner, and further stakeholders to coordinate the delivery of digital solutions within an agile solution delivery model and build-up and nurture strong relationships across the R&ED organization. You will be a key contributor to our strategic initiative to modernize and evolve our research entity registration landscape to digitally represent all research entities in Novo Nordisk R&ED, e.g., peptides, small molecules, cells, antibodies, etc.

 

As a Principal Scientific Software Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading implementation and the solution architecture for our research entity registration platforms, incorporating commercial and home-built digital solutions, and ensure the seamless operation of these digital solutions in collaboration with the agile product team.
  • Advising and coaching software developers on best practices in scientific software development and DevOps, and act as a champion for agile solution delivery by fostering professionalism and following best practices.
  • Collaborating with product owners, software developers, and application experts to implement research entity applications.
  • Establishing and nurturing effective partnerships with research scientists, research IT specialists, IT and data experts, external consultants, and digital solution vendors.

 

Qualifications
To thrive and succeed in this position, we imagine you have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Computer Engineering with experience from the pharmaceutical industry, or a BSc/MSc with 5+ years of experience in life sciences, medical device, or the pharmaceutical industry, with extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical research IT and scientific digital solutions.
  • Expertise in at least one object-oriented coding language (.NET / C# preferred) and experience in designing microservices, cloud infrastructure, APIs, containerisation, and DevOps.
  • Knowledge of domain-driven architecture and solution design, and familiarity with the FAIR principles, especially in the context of research entity registration.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive amidst ambiguity.

 

About the department
You will join the Scientific Software Engineering department, within Scientific Data Registration of DSI, enabling Novo Nordisk R&ED researchers and laboratories with digital solutions to take the best data-driven decision. We are designing, creating, maintaining, and continuously refining globally deployed, high-impact scientific digital solutions that constitute an integrated and intuitive digital product landscape that accelerates data-driven research to enable Novo Nordisk's next big breakthroughs. The Scientific Software Engineering team consists of experts with both scientific and technical background and have the skills to guide and drive the software implementation of innovative and impactful digital solutions for R&ED scientists (e.g., research entity registration systems and sample inventories, electronic lab notebooks, and further data capturing & management systems). The team members have diverse competencies and experiences which are all essential to design, scout for, create, and maintain innovative software solutions to accelerate digitalization across R&ED. While working in different product teams, focussed on delivery, the Scientific Software Engineering team brings together individuals with similar competencies and capabilities, allowing for optimal talent development.
