The Position 

In this key position, you will be instrumental in shaping and accelerating scientific innovation in early research and drug discovery. As Director of Digital Science External Partnerships, you will join a dynamic and global team driven to lead the digital transformation of early research and drug discovery by delivering external digital innovation. In this unique role, you will get significant exposure to the Leadership Teams in Research & Early Development (R&ED) and insights across the Novo Nordisk value chain. 

  

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Identifying and maturing digital opportunities and ensuring that projects with external partners address strategic needs within R&ED, together with subject matter experts, Search & Evaluation, and supporting functions colleagues. 
  • Leading cross-functional project teams to drive the execution of major digital partnerships by providing project management and strategic direction, ensuring scientific relevance, and high-quality of project deliverables. 
  • Providing strong internal and external stakeholder management to ensure continuous alignment on scientific and business value. 
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and develop partnership opportunities with strategic fit. 
  • Providing and growing a robust network of relevant external companies and institutions in the digital space of drug discovery.  
  • Developing long- and short-term business strategies and plans for engagement with key external digital partners and overseeing implementation. 

 

Please note that this position does not entail direct people leadership responsibilities. 

The position can be located in Copenhagen (Denmark) or Boston (US), and approximately 15 % of overnight travels abroad are to be expected to attend meetings, conferences, and stakeholder interactions. 

  

Qualifications 

To thrive and succeed in this role, we would expect you to have: 

  • A PhD in computational science, data science, bioinformatics or similar. 
  • Proven experience in in-silico/AI-driven drug discovery from pharmaceutical companies, biotech, and tech companies e.g. computational peptide/protein design (preferred), target/biomarker discovery, and computational biology. 
  • Hands-on experience in project leadership and management, including establishing and executing strategic projects, and ensuring high-quality project deliverables. 
  • Solid industry experience working with external partners in the digital space of drug discovery. 
  • Proven experience in business development, including identifying and evaluating new opportunities, and managing external partnerships. 

 

You are a proactive and enthusiastic team player capable of collaborating with multiple global stakeholders in complex research environments and organisations. You have strong stakeholder management/influencing, communication, and problem-solving skills.  You have the ability to motivate people and drive the activities forward. You are also proficient in adaptively managing priorities amidst fluctuating circumstances. 

  

About the Department 

At Digital Science External Partnerships (DSEP), we are dedicated to formulating the digital external innovation strategy and driving its execution in close collaboration with stakeholders across R&ED. Our role encompasses identifying, prioritizing, and project-managing strategic digital partnerships. We are committed to delivering value and ensuring access to cutting-edge technologies, such as AI/ML and LLM-based methodologies, as well as human cohort data, all of which are instrumental for target/biomarker discovery, computational biology, and drug design in early research and drug discovery. Together with DKD, we will evolve approaches for using AI and develop advanced information retrieval, enabling comprehensive utilization of external and internal scientific data with advanced analytics to gain key insights and intelligence from a comprehensive hub of scientific knowledge in the early research and drug discovery space. 

  

As part of the DSI SVP area, DKD plays a vital role in driving digital transformation across Novo Nordisk R&ED. DSI participates in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development, with the objective of enhancing the lives of individuals living with serious chronic conditions.
