The position

In this role solid-phase peptide synthesis and chemical modification of recombinant proteins and peptides lie at the heart of the focus. The department prepare innovative compounds to all therapy areas of Novo Nordisk, relying on state-of-the-art discovery capabilities, IPR insights and world-leading competencies in protein and peptide drug discovery. We are deeply dedicated to many exciting projects of the Novo Nordisk pipeline, where collaboration with high-level partners from academia and industry is becoming increasingly important. Your responsibilities include the planning and scoping of the scientific work required to progress projects in alignment with key stakeholders in the R&D organisation, and to build a bold and aspiring innovation culture. You will become part of our digital transformation journey and drive automation initiatives in close collaboration with scientists from Global Research Technologies. You will be responsible for inspiring and motivating a team of highly engaged scientists and lab technicians. You let your passion for science and drug discovery shine to naturally set strategic directions and business targets for the department, while ensuring a sustainable and engaging working environment.

You will become part of a humorous and deeply dedicated leadership team where you will help set the strategic direction for the Research Chemistry area. You will work to ensure adequate allocation of resources consistent with overall R&D priorities while keeping a holistic view on the long-term goals of Novo Nordisk.

 

Qualifications

You hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, chemical biology, or relevant biopharmaceutical science, and have strong relevant experience, preferably from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. The preferred candidate has a proven track record within medicinal chemistry and/or modification of biological macromolecules, as evident from publications/patents and an international network within the field.

You are passionate about developing and leading people and demonstrate leadership qualities. You display excellent collaboration and communication skills and evident commitment to create winning teams with focus on continuous people development. You have an ability to set meaningful and clear directions in a complex environment with many stakeholders.

 

About the department

The area Research Chemistry is a central part of Global Research Technologies located in Måløv, Copenhagen area, Denmark. The area consists of 3 departments and is responsible for the generation of synthetic peptides and modified proteins to sustain a portfolio of oral and injectable biologics, and other molecular modalities, across the entire Novo Nordisk research portfolio. We aspire to drive innovation by applying a curiosity-driven mindset and openness to new technologies and deep chemistry expertise, and we are currently transforming the way we work through advanced automation and data science. The Department Research Chemistry 1 consists of 15 highly skilled employees constituted by scientists at all levels and lab technicians.
