Advanced Laboratory Technician - GEM Cell Hub - 1 year limited contract (maternity leave cover)

Category:  Research
Location:

Måløv, Capital Region of Denmark, DK

Are you passionate about developing cellular models that are poised to improve the predictive validity and translatability of new drug targets? Are you excited to contribute to the early operations and science of a new research team? Do you have a stem cell differentiation background and an eagerness for fast-paced, hands-on laboratory work? Importantly, do you believe in a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and innovation? If yes, then you might be the one we are looking for to contribute to the GEM Cell Hub (Genome Engineering & Manufacturing of Stem Cell-Derived Cell Types), a new project to generate stem cell-derived cell types for target discovery, screening assay development, and drug screening. Apply today and become part of Novo Nordisk's mission to improve lives through innovative pharmaceutical solutions.

The position

As the Advanced Laboratory Technician, you will be based in Måløv, Denmark and work closely with a Scientist. Your primary responsibility will be the establishment of processes for human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) culture and the scalable production of hPSC-derived cell types with high reproducibility and functionality. This will involve close interactions with the Scientist and other members of the GEM Cell Hub. Bringing together competences within stem cell biology, molecular biology, assay technology, analytics, cell physiology, and cultivation technology, the Advanced Laboratory Technician will play a key role in enabling accelerated target discovery and drug screening in early-stage research.

The main responsibilities can be summarized as follows:

  • Together with a Scientist, establish protocols and workflows for stem cell cultivation, differentiation and characterization, focusing on robustness, functionality and scalability.
  • Design and execute experiments to optimize differentiation protocols, lizing cutting-edge bioprocessing techniques for 2D and 3D culture.
  • Employ molecular biology techniques to characterize and quality control stem cells and their cellular derivatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate established stem cell differentiation protocols into large-scale manufacturing processes.
  • Document, analyses and interpret experimental data using digital frameworks.
  • Laboratory support and maintenance of reagents, instruments, and infrastructure.

Qualifications

To thrive and succeed in the role, you should have:

  • Education as a laboratory technician (laborant), biomedical laboratory scientist (bioanalytiker), with at least 4-6 years of work experience.
  • Hands-on experience in stem cell propagation and differentiation process development, and knowledge of gene editing and cultivation strategies for stem cells. It will be an advantage if you have experience from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
  • Knowledge of high-throughput screening techniques to inform and develop assays for drug discovery.
  • Familiarity with automated liquid handling systems and robotics.
  • Hands-on experience with establishment of bioreactor-based processes.

Your role will require a highly structured, organized and operational mindset, and a working style that balances both, innovative ideas and the focus on key deliverables. Moreover, you are a team player who displays excellent collaboration and communication skills across all organizational levels, functions, and cultures. You also thrive working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

About The Project

The GEM Cell Hub is based in Novo Nordisk’s Therapeutics Discovery area, representing a new effort to bolster our drug discovery program using stem cell-derived cell types for target discovery and drug screening and related purposes. The primary aim is to ensure the accessibility of top-tier stem cell-derived cells for diverse applications, catering to varying demands for cell types, quality, quantities and thereby also requiring the need for ongoing research and deveopment of methods and processes. Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate the distribution of cells to stakeholders across the globe. The project will benefit from synergies of being co-localized with our cultivation experts in the area while having easy access to assay development colleagues and experts from our therapeutic stem cell area.
