Advanced Laboratory Technician, Bioprocess Development & Stem Cell Culture, Måløv

We are seeking a highly collaborative and proactive Advanced Laboratory Technician to join the GEM Cell Hub (Genome Engineering & Manufacturing of Stem Cell-Derived Cell Types) within Novo Nordisk Research & Early Development in Måløv, Denmark. 

 

The Position 

The GEM Cell Hub develops and manufactures human stem cell-derived cell types to support target discovery, assay development, disease modelling and drug discovery across Novo Nordisk. In this role, you will work at the intersection of human pluripotent stem cell biology, process development and scale-up in bioreactors, helping transform cutting-edge stem cell protocols into robust and reproducible manufacturing workflows. 

You will collaborate closely with scientists, bioprocess specialists and other laboratory technicians to establish scalable culture systems and deliver high-quality cell products to stakeholders across research. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Culture 

  • Maintain, expand and cryopreserve human pluripotent stem cell lines in both adherent and suspension culture systems. 

  • Execute differentiation protocols to generate specialised cell types for research applications. 

  • Monitor cell identity, quality and performance using established analytical methods. 

Bioreactor Operations and Process Scale-Up 

  • Establish, operate and optimise small- and medium-scale bioreactor cultures for expansion and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. 

  • Support technology transfer of differentiation protocols from static culture formats to scalable suspension-based processes. 

  • Perform routine process monitoring and sampling, including assessment of cell growth, viability and differentiation efficiency. 

Cell Characterisation and Quality Control 

  • Conduct analytical assays including flow cytometry, qPCR, immunostaining and viability analysis. 

  • Analyse and document process performance and product quality attributes. 

  • Support troubleshooting activities and root-cause investigations. 

Laboratory Operations 

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents and inventory. 

  • Ensure accurate documentation, data recording and compliance with laboratory procedures. 

  • Contribute to implementation of new technologies supporting automation and process standardisation. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with scientists and stakeholders to support development of new stem cell-derived cell products. 

  • Participate in experimental planning, execution and continuous improvement initiatives. 

  • Help build technical expertise and best practices within the growing GEM Cell Hub. 

 

Qualifications 

Required:

  • Education as a Laboratory Technician (Laborant), Biomedical Laboratory Scientist (Bioanalytiker), or equivalent B.Sc.-level qualification. 

  • 4–8+ years of relevant laboratory experience. 

  • Extensive hands-on experience with human pluripotent stem cell culture. 

  • Experience with cell differentiation and cell characterisation techniques. 

  • Experience with scale-up or process development in biotechnology, cell therapy or biopharmaceutical manufacturing, preferably with human pluripotent stem cells and their derivatives. 

  • Experience with experimental documentation, data handling and reporting. 

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills. 

Preferred:

  • Experience with suspension culture of human pluripotent stem cells. 

  • Experience operating stirred-tank bioreactors and related cell culture systems. 

  • Familiarity with flow cytometry, image-based analysis and molecular biology techniques. 

  • Experience with automation, liquid handling systems or process analytical technologies. 

  • Experience from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. 

  • Training and experience as an AMR/Health & Safety representative, with a proactive approach to strengthening safety culture in the laboratory.

Salary:  For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from min. 499,600 to max. 734,400 DKK corresponding to the level of the position.

The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.

Incentives and Benefits: The salary package may include short-term and/or long-term incentives as well as other employee benefits based on position level,  location, functional area and relevant market benchmarks.
