As Director, Advanced Computational Infrastructure and AI Platforms, you will lead the GPU, high-performance computing (HPC), storage and hybrid-cloud foundations that Novo’s scientists, data scientists and ML engineers rely on. You will shape how AI, simulation and data-intensive workloads run across research, clinical development and the enterprise – securely, reliably and at scale. Your work gives teams the computing power to move from question to insight faster, supporting progress for people living with serious chronic diseases.

What you’ll bring
This role is built around hands-on ownership of production GPU or HPC environments. You’ll bring:
•    Substantial direct experience designing, delivering and operating production advanced computational infrastructure at enterprise scale, including GPU or HPC compute and high-performance stor-age. This is the central requirement for the role.
•    Experience leading global engineering teams, with accountability for infrastructure architecture, deployment, reliability, capacity and cost.
•    Specific infrastructure programmes you have owned that you can talk us through – the workloads they supported and the measura-ble outcomes in performance, scale or reliability.
•    Strong technical depth in GPU infrastructure, HPC clusters, distrib-uted computing and workload scheduling, as well as high-performance storage, data movement, networking and intercon-nects.
•    Hands-on knowledge of hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises systems and AWS, Azure or GCP, including Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, automation, security and observability.
•    Expertise in capacity planning, performance engineering, resilience and cost management.
•    An understanding of AI and scientific workloads – model training and inference, simulation and data-intensive computing – and of MLOps and LLMOps platform requirements and responsible AI controls.
•    An educational background in computer science, engineering or a related field.
Useful, but not essential:
•    Experience in a highly regulated industry, ideally pharmaceutical or life sciences.

What you’ll do
You will own the architecture, engineering roadmap and operating model for advanced computational infrastructure across cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments – and make sure it keeps pace as AI and research workloads grow.
•    Set the target architecture and roadmap for GPU and HPC com-pute, high-performance storage and supporting networks, with clear strategies for capacity, workload placement, procurement, performance, resilience, sustainability and cost.
•    Design, build and operate production GPU clusters and HPC envi-ronments for model training, inference, simulation and other com-pute-intensive work, guiding choices in orchestration, scheduling, interconnects and observability, and resolving bottlenecks across the compute stack.
•    Architect scalable storage and data movement for AI and scientific workloads – from high-throughput access to backup, archival and data lifecycle management – that meets requirements for throughput, availability, security, compliance and cost.
•    Integrate on-premises infrastructure with cloud platforms and Kubernetes-based services, automate provisioning and operations through infrastructure as code, and track capacity, performance, reliability and cost to drive improvement.
•    Provide the infrastructure foundation for model development, deployment, monitoring and lifecycle management, applying the security, governance, auditability and model-risk controls a regu-lated pharmaceutical environment requires.
•    Lead global infrastructure and platform engineering teams, setting clear standards for delivery, operations, security and service relia-bility.

Who you’ll work with
You will lead global infrastructure and platform engineering teams within Product & Portfolio Strategy. Your closest partners will be research, clinical de-velopment, AI and enterprise technology leaders, whose workload needs you will turn into production infrastructure requirements.
You will work side by side with MLOps and LLMOps teams to support models from training through to monitoring, and manage strategic partners across the GPU, HPC, networking, storage, cloud and platform ecosystems. Based in London, you will work globally – bringing scientific, technical and commercial perspectives together, creating clarity on priorities and helping teams move at speed.
