The Position
The project manager will implement IT projects within business applications and IT infrastructure to support the business in the Novo Nordisk Lexington, Massachusetts site in close collaboration with global partners, business partners and IT.
This position will work across Novo Nordisk departments and locations, managing projects benefitting various functions such as Research, Early Development, Clinical Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Facilities, IT, and others.
Projects may entail implementing new commercial off-the-shelf platforms, custom developed solutions, introducing process improvements, accommodating functional and user base expansions, platform migrations, new or updated integrations, platform decommissions, and others.
The role performs a critical function in the important expansion of Novo Nordisk in the US.
Relationships
The role will report to the Head of Project Office in Lexington, MA, and work closely with employees at Novo Nordisk R&D sites in the North American region (Including Boston area sites, Seattle, Fremont, and Boulder), lab and scientific research groups, DDIT RED and broader DDIT organization globally (primarily in Denmark).
Essential Functions
- Project Management
- Initiate and Oversee Projects: Launch new business and IT projects, serving as the primary point of contact for team communication and coordination
- Plan and Coordinate Deliverables: Organize daily project activities, ensuring all deliverables are met, and facilitate effective communication within the team
- Define Project Scope: Collaborate with project champions and stakeholders to clarify project goals and deliverables
- Manage Risks: Develop and communicate strategies to address risks related to schedule, scope, resources, budget, and quality. Conduct start-up meetings to clarify roles and responsibilities
- Utilize Methodologies: Apply both Waterfall and SAFe Agile methodologies, guiding projects from inception to realization per ITPMM guidelines and delivering quick value through SAFe
- Ensure Compliance: Align projects with IT Security and business requirements while tracking progress against schedule, scope, and budget
- Address Interdependencies: Manage relationships between the project and other initiatives to minimize risks
- Resource Planning: Oversee project resource planning, including the recruitment of internal and external participants as needed
- Set Direction: Establish clear project direction and foster a productive work environment
- Manage Change: Design and implement effective change management strategies
- Project Complexity: Lead small to mid-size projects that involve complexity and require engagement with global and senior stakeholders
- Communicate Status: Provide regular project updates to all stakeholders
- Business Transformation
- Drive Business Case Realization: Ensure initiatives deliver global business impact and support innovative projects with significant business implications
- Project Governance and Steering
- Prepare for Committees: Create and present project status reports to Steering Committees and other governance bodies
- Timely Issue Escalation: Quickly escalate issues to stakeholders and the Steering Committee for effective resolution
- Adhere to Quality Standards: Follow Novo Nordisk's quality management system and prepare project documentation according to established guidelines
- People Management (Project Teams)
- Mentorship: Work independently while mentoring or coaching project coordinators
- Performance Feedback: Contribute to setting targets and provide ongoing feedback to project members
- Role Modeling: Exemplify the Novo Nordisk Way in all interactions
- Delegate Responsibilities: Assign roles and responsibilities within project teams effectively
- Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts, resource needs, and requests within project teams
Physical Requirements
The Job is based in Lexington, Massachusetts and requires full time, onsite presence. Over time there is a possibility of hybrid work, especially on Mondays and Fridays, though this is not guaranteed based on the nature of projects being worked on. Travel to HQ in DK may be required. Travel to US sites may be required. Approximately 5 % overnight travel is to be expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience required
- Technical, Practical and/or management experience with systems under GxP regulations in pharma/biotech Life Sciences highly preferred.
- Project Management Courses or documented PM track record preferred
- Solid negotiation skills
- Experience in using common project management tools (MS Project or others) and stays updated on project management tools and working methods
- Finds solutions to problems arising in medium complexity projects
- Ability to establish cross organizational collaboration
- Demonstrate proactive stakeholder management at varying levels
- Familiarity with authoring or reviewing SOP’s and system operation guides
- Experience in both Waterfall and SAFe / agile project methodologies preferred
