The Position

The Scientist I - Biomarker Discovery & Assay Development Platforms will be responsible for developing and implementing assays to quantify novel biomarkers in pre-clinical and clinical samples. Additionally, the role includes discovering and qualifying novel pathway modulation biomarkers in collaboration with stakeholders in other departments. 

 

Relationships

This job reports to the Director of Biomarker Discovery & Assay Platforms and involves close interactions with scientists from other departments in Translational Research, Translational Medicine, Early Development, the Therapeutic Areas Diabetes, Obesity & MASH, and AI & Digital Innovation. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop Biomarker Assays:
    • Develop, qualify, and implement biomarker assays to quantify novel target engage-ment and proof-of-mechanism biomarkers in pre-clinical and clinical samples.
    • Oversee the development, qualification, and implementation of biomarker assays at external partners.
  • Discover & Qualify Proof-of-Mechanism Biomarkers:
    • Collaborate with other departments in Research & Early Development to discover and qualify proof-of-mechanism biomarkers.
    • Leveraging in vitro cell lines and systems in other departments in Research & Early Development to discover and qualify proof-of-mechanism biomarkers.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise:
    • Occasionally demonstrate subject matter expertise for senior leaders.
    • Set directions and deliver results that significantly impact the wider operational area.
    • Identify better practices and create improvements in methods, techniques, and approaches.
  • Mentor and Coach Junior Colleagues:
    • Mentor and coach more junior colleagues in the team.
    • Provide guidance and support to enhance their professional development.
    • Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.
  • Independently Manage Research Projects:
    • Handle most situations independently and with routine, seeking guidance on more complex issues.
    • Ensure timely and effective execution of research projects.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

 

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight international travel required.

 

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree with 6+ years’ relevant experience required, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years’ relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree with limited to no experience.
  • Demonstates subject matter expertise in biomarker assay development and/or biomarker discovery and qualifcation. 
  • Establishes biomarkers to support preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Develops, qualifies, and implements biomarker assays.
  • Applies subject matter knowledge to solve common business issues independently.
  • Identifies and creates improvements in methods, techniques, and approaches.
  • Mentors and coaches more junior colleagues.
