The Position
The High Performance Computing (Operation) Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with our scientific users to enable the best use of our HPC platforms. Our scientific users are situated globally, and this position will be working in an international environment with team members around the globe. The position is a user-facing role - close collaboration with scientific users of HPC to understand their needs and to provide guidance. AI Foundation/Advanced Computational Infrastructure (ACI) supports the strategic digital transformation needed to realize the Novo Nordisk strategy. The HCP Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, operating, maintaining, and supporting the storage-, middleware - and IT infrastructure used by all units across Novo Nordisk on-premises and in the cloud.
Relationships
This position reports to: The head of Advanced Computational Infrastructure in Enterprise AI. Daily contact with IT project groups as a member or as supporting specialist; and will also be required to work closely with other IT units that provide underlying and integrated enterprise infrastructure (e.g. Enterprise Infrastructure & Information Security).
Essential Functions
- Maintain a strong collaboration with data scientists and research scientists to optimize their workflows and code and resolve their issues and requests
- Responsible for building, testing, and deploying the solution CDK pipeline for new releases; maintain the specification and operations documentation
- Ensure the operations, maintenance and support model is functioning seamlessly and continuously improved
- Proactively keep the solutions highly stable, available, and performing to expectations, which includes optimization of our system and user activity monitoring and alerts, and our devops in general
- Understand the researchers’ and data scientists’ needs and based on these raise proposals for technical/functional changes and additions
- Drive user training, expand the user guidance material and promote the HPC user community interaction
- Responsible for building new features, as well as handling change requests
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience or Master's degree and 2+ years of experience
- Hands-on and work with new technologies and able to quickly learn new concepts
- Team-oriented with a strong personal drive to achieve goals and service-minded and thrive in a busy environment
- Experience with and deep knowledge of Linux systems
- A good understanding and preferably experience with DevOps principles such as automation, infrastructure/configuration as code, CI/CD amongst others
- Preferably, experience with scientific software, such as R, Python, MATLAB, Mathematics
- Experience in working within the HPC field
- Experience with AWS, preferably Parallel Cluster
- Experience from agile project work and direct end-user interaction is preferred
- Customer minded problem-solving mindset with a keen interest in identifying and problem solve how to best enable and increase science and operational performance through IT
- Knowledge or interest in the following:
- IaC through GitHub
- Generative AI and other related machine learning technologies from e.g., NVIDIA
- Ansible, Slurm, on premise HPC cluster solutions, Run.ai, CEPH, Lustre, WEKA and Qumulo storage
- Virtualization and Container orchestration
- Parallel programming and MPI
The base compensation range for this position is $99,600 to $184,200. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
