The Position

The HPC (Operation) Engineer plays an instrumental role in collaborating with our scientific users to enable the best use of our HPC platforms. Our scientific users are situated globally, and this position will be working in an international environment with team members around the globe. The position is a user-facing role - close collaboration with scientific users of HPC to understand their needs and to provide guidance is crucial to succeed.

 

DDIT-RED supports the strategic digital transformation of our R&ED organisation at Novo Nordisk needed to realise their strategy. We are responsible for developing, implementing, operating, maintaining, and supporting the data-, middleware - and IT infrastructure used by the R&ED units across Novo Nordisk on-premises and in the cloud.

 

We take pride in being experts in IT infrastructure and platforms, and at the same time having experience and understanding of how our researchers use the platforms, data, and compute power we make available.

 

Relationships

This position reports to: Senior Project Manager - IT.

 

The primary contact points in daily work are IT project groups as member or as supporting specialist.

 

Essential Functions

  • Have a strong collaboration with data scientists and research scientists to optimize their workflows and code and resolve their issues and requests
  • This is a job for a person that is excited to be hands-on and work with new technologies and able to quickly learn new concepts. You are team-oriented and have a strong personal drive to achieve goals. We expect you to be service-minded and thrive in a busy environment.
  • Ensure the operations, maintenance and support model is functioning seamlessly and continuously improved
  • Proactively keep the solutions highly stable, available, and performing to expectations, which includes optimisation of our system and user activity monitoring and alerts, and our devops in general
  • Understand the researcher’s and data scientist’s needs and based on these raise proposals for technical/functional changes and additions
  • Have a role building, testing, and deploying the solution CDK pipeline for new releases
  • Drive user training, expand the user guidance material and promote the Research & Early Development HPC user community interaction
  • Have a hands-on role in building new features, as well as handling change requests

Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required. On-site presence in Boston-campus is required.

 

Qualifications

  • Education:  Minimum bachelor’s degree with a focus on Scientific Computing or similar. 
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with operations, preferably with systems used in a production context.
  • Experience and deep knowledge of Linux systems
  • Experience with DevOps principles such as automation, infrastructure/configuration as code, and CI/CD
  • Experiece with scientific software, such as R, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica e.g.
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Experience from agile project work and direct end-user interaction is preferred
  • Works independently, generally unsupervised, with strong drive to execute and identify key challenges in when solving tasks
  • Customer minded problem-solving mindset with a keen interest in identifying and problem solve how to best enable and increase science and operational performance through IT
  • Preferred skills in: 
    • Generative AI and other related machine learning technologies from e.g., NVIDIA
    • Ansible, Slurm, on premise HPC cluster solutions, Lustre or ZFS storage
    • IaC through AWS CDK
    • Experience in AWS or Azure
