About the department
The Legal Compliance & Quality department is dedicated to ensuring that Novo Nordisk operates ethically and in compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and standards. Our team provides legal counsel and support across various areas, including corporate law, transactions, compliance, and intellectual property. You will join the Malaysia affiliate Legal & Compliance (L&C) department and report directly to the Legal, Compliance & Quality Director. This role is based in Malaysia.
The position
In this role, you will act as the Malaysia Legal and Compliance Counsel working with the Legal, Compliance, and Quality Director to advise the Malaysia affiliate on legal issues concerning its business and also to ensure an effective compliance program and a robust compliance culture across the company which focuses on prevention, detection (monitoring and reporting mechanisms) and response.
Key accountabilities include:
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian laws by working with BASEA, APAC, and IO Legal Teams, supporting key projects, product launches, disputes, and arbitration; manage external law firms and legal documents/contracts effectively.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance program including interactions with HCPs, conflicts-of-interest, fraud and bribery prevention, privacy/confidentiality, and responsible asset use; support audits, committees, and corrective action plans.
- Provide proactive legal and compliance advice, conduct risk assessments, and support initiatives across commercial, public affairs, and medical teams to protect patients and mitigate risks.
- Harmonize and conduct Business Ethics (BE) trainings, document internal investigations, and support data privacy implementation aligned with local/global requirements.
- Coordinate internal legal and compliance data with BECO, GIA, IO, BASEA, and APAC, and maintain contract management, archiving, and data privacy compliance processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years PQE with LLB from a recognized university; qualified advocate & solicitor in Malaysia with in-house or reputable law firm experience.
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills across diverse business functions.
- Background in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry is an added advantage.
- Proficient in using technology to develop and deliver legal/compliance solutions.
- Excellent English communication skills; able to simplify legal concepts and engage effectively with all organizational levels; strong interpersonal skills.
