General Manager, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur, MY
Lead an entire affiliate. Shape a market. Change the way serious chronic diseases are treated across Malaysia. This is your opportunity to steer Novo Nordisk's business in one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic markets – and to make a tangible difference to patients living with diabetes, obesity and other serious chronic diseases.
Your new role
As General Manager for Novo Nordisk Malaysia, you will hold full P&L responsibility for the affiliate and represent our company externally to authorities, healthcare professionals, patient associations and the wider public. You will lead a team of more than 120 colleagues (including nine direct reports) and sit on the leadership team of Business Area South-East Asia, shaping strategy for one of our most exciting growth regions.
Day-to-day, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering sustainable growth and P&L results in line with business objectives, local regulations and Novo Nordisk's ethical standards
- Driving change in the local market with a patient-centric mindset and a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility
- Building and maintaining trusted partnerships with medical, regulatory, payer and commissioning authorities to shape market access and treatment pathways
- Cultivating an ambitious culture of engagement and high performance, coaching and developing your local management team
- Acting as our local ambassador – representing Novo Nordisk positively and proactively in the media and with all external stakeholders
- Ensuring full compliance with Malaysian laws and regulations, overall quality of systems and processes, and serving as legal representative for the affiliate
- Participating as a member of the Crisis Emergency Team, ensuring readiness and adequate handling of any situation
Your new department
As part of International Operations, you will join our largest operational unit. Covering 194 countries and 95% of the world's population, more than 18,000 of us work passionately to serve 35 million patients each day. With a promise to outperform the competition, we continue to be the growth driver for Novo Nordisk, and to improve health at scale across the globe.
Within International Operations, you will be part of Region APAC. Within Region APAC, Business Area South-East Asia (BASEA) includes Malaysia, which plays a strategically important role. As General Manager, you will report to the VP of BASEA and work closely with colleagues across BASEA, APAC, Global Marketing, and Corporate Communication. The General Manager for Malaysia will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and together we will help expand access to life-changing treatments throughout the region.
Your skills & qualifications
We are looking for a purpose-driven leader with the commercial acumen, cultural intelligence and courage to guide an entire affiliate through change and growth. To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A university degree with postgraduate qualifications in Business Management, and full professional fluency in English
- 10+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including 5–10 years in senior management with proven P&L accountability
- A track record of building and leading high-performing, cross-functional teams – ideally managing second-line leaders – across multiple therapy areas or business scenarios (e.g. turnaround, merger, digital transformation, business development)
- Cross-functional and/or international experience, combined with strong exposure to public affairs, complex external negotiations, and supply chain management and forecasting
- Strategic thinking and enhanced analytical skills, with the ability to translate market data into clear commercial choices and shape the market with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Outstanding communication, influencing and negotiation skills – with the resilience to lead through ambiguity, build trust, and inspire teams and stakeholders alike
