The position
We are looking for a student who is motivated by and enjoys analyzing data, conceptualizing problems, developing models, and solving them for system improvements.
So, what will you do?
• Represent the current production process by developing flowsheet models using a discrete event simulation tool
• Quantify the current state and identify process bottlenecks
• Generate ideas for process improvements together with process experts and conduct idea screening

Qualifications
We're seeking candidates who fulfil the following prerequisites:
• Studying within the field of chemical engineering at a Danish university.
• About to start or already within an MSc program (at least 2 semesters left)
• Focus area of studies: mathematical modelling and simulation, optimization and/or data analysis.
• Understanding of basic process simulation programs or mathematical programming.
• Curious and an appetite for solving problems by applying a systems approach

About the department
You will be a part of Novo Nordisk's Insulin Production, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (PS API), and assigned to Manufacturing 1 (M1), the world’s largest Insulin Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing facility located in Kalundborg. This facility encompasses fermentation, recovery, purification, and utilities production under one roof.
You will be employed in M1 Bioprocess Improvement-Optimization (M1BIO), a group consisting of 8 highly skilled colleagues and MSc students, all working with advanced mathematical modeling for bioprocess improvement and optimization. We follow a multiscale modeling approach for problem-solving and have activities in Applied Mathematical Modeling, Mechanistic Modeling, Process Control Modeling, Capacity Modeling, and Supply Chain Optimization Modeling. We foster a trusting, inclusive, and enthusiastic work environment, support each other well, and look forward to making you feel welcomed. As our new colleague, you will join us in the Capacity Modeling scale, where we focus on capacity analysis for production planning and scheduling.
