Senior Process Engineer, API Manufacturing

Your new role

As a Senior Process Engineer in API Manufacturing, you will be responsible for strengthening product and process understanding in a state-of-the-art production environment. You will combine your knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry and pharmaceutical manufacturing with data-driven methods to support stable, compliant and efficient process performance.

A key part of your role will be understanding how the characteristics of the molecule, chemical reactions and purification processes affect the final product. You will support the transfer of a new product from development into operations and gradually take ownership of product-related activities. Working across production, development, quality and engineering, you will translate scientific insights into practical manufacturing improvements.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Driving qualification and validation activities in accordance with cGMP requirements and supporting the implementation of new products and processes.
• Developing a detailed understanding of chemical modification, protein chemistry, purification and other critical API process steps.
• Analysing complex process data, identifying correlations and root causes, and translating findings into robust improvements and monitoring strategies.
• Taking ownership of product-related activities, including deviations, investigations, change requests, product transfers and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Building organisational capability by sharing specialist knowledge, influencing technical decisions and supporting colleagues in a growing team.

Your new department

At Novo Nordisk Manufacturing Kalundborg, you will become part of a leading production hub for API manufacturing, producing insulins and GLP-1 analogues that support millions of people living with diabetes and other chronic diseases.

You will join a growing team supporting a new product transfer and the development of strong product and process capabilities. Several colleagues are currently joining the area, giving you a valuable opportunity to influence the team’s technical direction, contribute to its specialist culture and help create effective cross-functional collaboration.

You will work alongside dedicated specialists who continuously improve how we manufacture, strengthening quality, performance and patient impact. The role offers broad exposure to product changes, development activities, manufacturing challenges and product-related decision-making.

Please note: there will be manufacturing, storage or handling of semi-finished or finished GLP-1 products in the work location (building), regardless of whether you will directly handle the products.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for a technically strong candidate who understands manufacturing processes at a molecular, chemical and biochemical level. You take ownership, work independently and remain constructive when navigating ambiguity or rapidly changing priorities.

To succeed in this role, you will typically have:

• A Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, biomedicine, chemical engineering or another relevant life-science discipline.
• At least five years of relevant experience, preferably within pharmaceutical manufacturing, API production, biotechnology or another chemistry-intensive production environment.
• Practical knowledge of areas such as chemical modification, protein chemistry, organic chemistry, downstream processing, purification or HPLC.
• Experience with cGMP, deviations, investigations, change control, qualification or validation in a regulated setting.
• Strong English communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions, share knowledge and collaborate across functions.

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 651,000.00 DKK to 956,900.00 DKK (DK), corresponding to the level of the position. The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.

Incentives and Benefits: The salary package may include short-term and/or long-term incentives as well as other employee benefits based on position level, location, functional area and relevant market benchmarks.
