IT System Engineer - PLC Engineering and API DEV/VAL Systems

As IT System Engineer, you will own the lifecycle and operation of the IT platforms behind Siemens PLC Engineering across API, alongside Development and Validation systems. As new production comes online, you will keep these systems stable, secure and compliant, and orchestrate the activities that keep them fit for use. Your work supports the teams that make medicines for millions of people living with serious chronic diseases. 

What you'll bring 

We are looking for someone who can move between the regulatory and the technical, and who executes rather than only documents. To be a strong fit, you bring: 

•  A background that qualifies for a professional-level role – a master's is welcome but not required; a bachelor's combined with relevant experience is equally valued. 

•  Experience with IT system engineering, infrastructure, platform operations or technical service ownership. 

•  The ability to work hands-on with systems and platforms – for example patching a server or updating a VMware client – not only maintaining documentation. 

•  An understanding of working in a heavily regulated environment (pharma, energy, finance or similar). 

•  Strong stakeholder management, with confidence engaging many partners across different levels. 

•  A self-directed, extroverted approach, comfortable being the primary owner of your systems. 

•  Professional proficiency in written and spoken English. . 

Useful, but not essential: 

•  Knowledge of Siemens PLC technologies (e.g. SIMATIC, TIA Portal, STEP 7) or a background as an automation technician. 

•  Familiarity with GxP/GMP or computerised system validation and GAMP 5 principles. 

•  Experience with IT/OT cybersecurity, industrial networking, or infrastructure such as Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, databases and backup solutions. 

What you'll do 

You will be managing the IT systems supporting PLC Engineering and the DEV/VAL landscape across API, balancing day-to-day operation with project work: 

•  Manage the full lifecycle of your systems – implementation, operation, maintenance, upgrades, periodic review and decommissioning. 

•  Keep the PLC Engineering platform (built on Siemens technologies) and DEV/VAL environments stable, secure and compliant, handling patching, monitoring, backup, access and vulnerabilities. 

•  Orchestrate activities and make things happen – planning changes, following up on incidents and requests, and executing technical tasks yourself. 

•  Engage the automation teams that use the platform and support the large global project engagements , ensuring new work is validated and compliant. 

•  Maintain audit-ready documentation and contribute to validation, impact assessments and change controls. 

•  Act as the primary IT contact for Automation, Engineering, Quality, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity and external vendors. 

Who you'll work with 

You will join a local team of seven within GMS API IT, a cross-IT function of around 42 colleagues responsible for shared systems across API.. You will report to the team's manager. 

You will be the manager of your systems, working alongside one or two colleagues who manage similar systems, so you will not be alone in the discipline. Your wider network reaches automation and engineering teams, system owners, Quality and Validation, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, and external suppliers – including significant collaboration on global  projects . Much of the daily work happens in English.

The base workplace is Taastrup, and you should expect regular travel to Kalundborg. We value flexibility and will find a working pattern that fits the right person. For the right candidate relocating from abroad, we are open to discussing a relocation package. 

The salary range for this position is DKK 570,200–838,100, depending on qualifications and experience.
