Do you want to help shape packaging that performs in real life – for consumers, supply chains and production sites worldwide?

We are looking for a Senior Packaging Design Engineer to strengthen our Secondary Packaging team and accelerate Novo Nordisk’s shift towards a consumer‑first mindset. In this role, you will have direct impact on packaging used by millions of people every day.

Your new role

As Senior Packaging Design Engineer in Secondary Packaging, you will lead the design, development and optimisation of carton‑based and other paper‑based secondary packaging solutions. Your primary impact will be strengthening and improving marketed packaging by turning consumer insights, quality signals and site feedback into robust, scalable designs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading design and development of secondary packaging solutions, including cartons, labels and corrugated materials
  • Optimising marketed packaging to improve usability, robustness, sustainability and total cost
  • Creating and maintaining clear, production‑ready CAD drawings, specifications and documentation
  • Driving root‑cause analyses and translating deviations, complaints and site feedback into preventive design improvements
  • Collaborating closely with production sites, suppliers and global stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and compliance

The role is international, stakeholder‑rich and data‑driven, with a strong focus on engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Your new department

You will join DDI Secondary Packaging, an ambitious and highly skilled team positioned at the intersection of Device Delivery Innovation, Quality and Production.

The department acts as the hub for secondary packaging expertise at Novo Nordisk, supporting the global portfolio of marketed products. We are responsible for specifications, material requirements and continuous maintenance, ensuring packaging solutions work reliably in real‑world use across global production sites.

Your skills and qualifications

To succeed in this role, you combine strong technical expertise with a consumer-focused mindset and a collaborative, proactive way of working. We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Master’s degree (or above) in Design Engineering or a relevant field
  • Brings solid experience within secondary packaging design and development, ideally from consumer goods or other regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, medical devices, or food
  • Has a strong understanding of packaging from a consumer perspective, including usability, visual appeal, and functionality at the point of use
  • Possesses deep knowledge of paper-based materials, as well as converting and printing technologies
  • Is confident working with CAD tools, technical drawings and packaging specifications
  • Communicates fluently in English and thrives in a cross-functional, global environment

Experience with user-centred design methods, design thinking, LEAN or structured continuous improvement is considered an advantage.
