Category:  Research
Location:

Hillerød, Capital Region of Denmark, DK

Would you like to be part of a team of highly skilled academics and laboratory technicians that develop cultivation production processes for new therapeutic proteins? Are you enthusiastic about seeing the results of your work being scaled up and becoming a life-changing innovation for patients? Apply today and join us for a life-changing career!

The position
As an Upstream Process Development Scientist, you will be part of the mammalian cultivation development team, which consists of 4 academics and 8 laboratory technicians. The team's primary task is to develop cultivation processes and secure transfer to large-scale production. The development work is primarily carried out in cultivation robots and in bioreactors from 5L to 200L.

Cultivations are performed in shaker flasks, glass tanks, wave bags, steel tanks and single-use equipment. The cultivation processes are typically based on techniques such as standard fed-batch cultivation as well as continuous cultivation such as perfusion.

Your major task would be to develop cultivation processes for new therapeutic proteins at laboratory scale, as well as to transfer these to pilot plants and production for production of drug substance for clinical trials. Documentation of process robustness and scalability is an integrated part of our work process. You will encounter technical and scientific challenges and be involved in automation and digitization of our processes, also including establishment of rapid analysis. You will work both alone and together with technicians in the laboratories.

The working climate is informal with a high degree of flexibility. You will be working in an engaging scientific environment and in cooperation with colleagues from several different nationalities. You will work with and further develop state of the art techniques on several projects. We offer a position where you will be able to develop your scientific and technical knowledge as well as project management skills.

Your qualifications

  • You hold a Ph.D. or Master's degree in chemical engineering, science, cand. scient. or any other relevant degree.
  • 2+ years of experience with cell cultivation in laboratory, pilot or production scale is a clear advantage
  • You are fluent in English (a fluency in Danish is not a pre-requisite)
  • An experience with perfusion technologies is a plus

As a person, you thrive in a changing and dynamic work environment and in a job that requires you to take initiatives and keep an eye on how to continuously improve our work processes. Furthermore, you are a true team-player who enjoys working in close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across functions and departments. Finally, you appreciate being hands-on.

The department
In Upstream Development, we develop the cultivation and recovery processes for new therapeutic proteins. The department consists of approx. 50 people in four teams, working with microbial and mammalian cell banks, cultivation processes and automation. This position is within the mammalian cultivation development team, located in Hillerød.

The department is part of the R&D organisation that manufactures and control pharmaceutical proteins for toxicological and clinical studies. We focus on automation and digitization of our processes and put emphasis on implementation of new technologies also within rapid analysis.
