Product Development Engineer Lead

Primary Packaging – Oral & Vial Team | Hillerød, Denmark

Your New Role

As a Product Development Engineer Lead, you will play a key role in securing the technical development of primary packaging systems and components for oral and/or parenteral drug delivery. Operating within a matrix organisation, you will lead assigned projects in close collaboration with a PMO Project Manager while remaining hands-on in the technical development activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing primary packaging systems and components for oral products (bottles and blisters) and/or parenteral products (vials), including specifications, drawings, and test documentation.
• Translating regulatory and industry requirements into robust development practices, ensuring technical documentation is compliant, inspection-ready, and aligned with relevant standards and pharmacopeia expectations.
• Driving safety risk management activities, requirements engineering, technical troubleshooting, and systematic problem-solving across development projects.
• Planning and coordinating project execution by defining goals, managing timelines, resources, budgets, and ensuring delivery against agreed scope, quality, schedule, and cost targets.
• Leading cross-functional teams and stakeholders, supporting supplier collaboration, integrated change control, governance activities, and compliance with Novo Nordisk Quality Management System and Environmental, Health & Safety requirements.

In this role, you will also work closely with specialists in testing, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and external suppliers to ensure seamless development, transfer, and implementation of primary packaging solutions.

You will join the Oral & Vial Team within Primary Packaging Development, located in Hillerød and part of Drug Delivery Innovation. The team consists of highly skilled development engineers, specialists, and project partners dedicated to developing and implementing primary packaging solutions across Novo Nordisk’s portfolio. Together, we combine technical expertise, collaboration, and innovation to deliver solutions that support patients worldwide.

Your Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we imagine you have a strong technical foundation combined with the ability to lead complex projects and engage diverse stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates who have:

• An MSc or BSc degree in Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related discipline, combined with at least 7 years of relevant industry experience.
• Solid experience working with primary packaging development, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and GMP environments.
• Experience within requirements engineering, safety risk assessment, and product development involving oral, parenteral, and/or medical device technologies.
• Demonstrated success coordinating cross-functional activities, driving project milestones, and managing stakeholders in a complex organisational setting.
• Fluent written and spoken English, along with strong analytical skills, a structured mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

It will be considered an advantage if you also have project management experience or certification, knowledge of extractables and leachables, GMP material documentation, systems engineering, and experience applying Lean methodologies to optimise business processes.

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 742,600 to 1,091,600 DKK (DK), corresponding to the level of the position. The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.

Incentives and Benefits: The salary package may include short-term and/or long-term incentives as well as other employee benefits based on position level, location, functional area and relevant market benchmarks.
