Primary Packaging – Oral & Vial Team | Hillerød, Denmark

Primary packaging may look simple – but it is the first line of protection for our medicines and the people who rely on them. If you enjoy transforming regulatory and quality requirements into practical engineering solutions, coordinating technical activities across stakeholders, and delivering documentation that enables confident decision-making, then you could be our next Product Development Engineer. Join us in developing world-class primary packaging systems for oral and parenteral products that support patient safety and product quality.

Your New Role

As our new Product Development Engineer, you will play an important role in the development of primary packaging systems, components, and associated technical documentation. Working in a collaborative and highly specialised development environment, you will help ensure that packaging solutions meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and functionality.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing primary packaging systems for oral products (bottles and blisters) and parenteral products (vials), ensuring solutions are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.
  • Translating regulatory and quality expectations into practical development activities, ensuring documentation and deliverables meet applicable industry requirements.
  • Preparing and maintaining technical documentation including specifications, drawings, test documentation, and safety risk management documentation.
  • Collaborating closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to align technical requirements, testing activities, and project deliverables.
  • Driving change requests, supporting structured problem-solving activities, and contributing to risk identification and mitigation throughout the development lifecycle.

You will have the opportunity to work across the full development process and contribute to packaging solutions that ultimately support patients around the world.

Your New Department

You will join the Oral & Vial Team within Primary Packaging Development, located in Hillerød and part of Drug Delivery Innovation. The team consists of highly skilled development engineers, specialists, and project managers who are dedicated to developing and implementing primary packaging solutions across Novo Nordisk’s portfolio. Together, we combine technical expertise, collaboration, and innovation to deliver solutions that support high-quality medicines and patient safety.

Your Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you are a technically strong and quality-focused professional who enjoys working across disciplines and engaging with multiple stakeholders. You are analytical, systematic, and motivated by finding practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • An MSc or BSc degree in Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related field, combined with at least 5 years of relevant experience in product or packaging development.
  • Hands-on experience with primary packaging development for oral and/or parenteral products together with knowledge of GMP environments and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in requirements engineering, safety risk management, and technical documentation that must withstand external review and inspection.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working effectively with suppliers, manufacturers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • A structured and analytical approach, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and a continuous improvement mindset.

It would be considered an advantage if you also have experience with GMP material documentation, systems engineering, extractables and leachables assessments, Lean methodologies, or other structured engineering approaches.
