Spray Drying Specialist - Synthetic API Manufacturing

Category:  Manufacturing
Location:

Høje-Taastrup, Capital Region of Denmark, DK

Do you want to apply your deep spray drying expertise to complex API manufacturing and help bring robust processes from development into global external manufacturing? Join us in Synthetic API MSAT, where your technical judgement will shape scale-up, technology transfer and continuous improvement across a global network of external partners.

Your new role

As our new Spray Drying Specialist, you will act as Subject Matter Expert within spray drying for externally manufactured API projects. You will guide technical decisions, support project teams and help ensure robust, scalable and compliant manufacturing processes across development and commercial production.

In this role, you will combine scientific understanding with practical manufacturing insight, working closely with internal stakeholders, Contract Manufacturing Organisations and equipment suppliers.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as technical expert within spray drying, including peptide-specific challenges such as stability and aggregation, as well as applicability to small molecules.
  • Leading or supporting technology transfer, scale-up and implementation of downstream processes at Contract Manufacturing Organisations.
  • Defining process requirements, critical parameters and equipment considerations to ensure process robustness at pilot and commercial scale.
  • Collaborating with CMC Development, MSAT teams, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Project Management and external partners to align development strategy with manufacturing execution.
  • Supporting troubleshooting, deviation handling, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, lifecycle management and continuous improvement.

You will operate with a high degree of independence within your area of expertise and provide recommendations to project teams and MSAT leadership. The role has a global scope, with interaction across multiple regions, and travel is expected up to 20%.

Your new department

You will join Synthetic API MSAT, part of CMC & Product Supply. In CMC & Product Supply, we cover the full value chain from drug and device development to marketed Novo Nordisk products. We are more than 30,000 colleagues across the globe with the shared responsibility of scaling molecules, processes, devices and products, dedicated to supplying lifesaving medicines to the patients who need them most.

Synthetic API MSAT supports outsourced synthetic API production with specialist technical expertise across development, scale-up, commercialisation and lifecycle management. The team works at the intersection of science, manufacturing and external collaboration, helping bridge development requirements with manufacturing reality across a global external manufacturing network.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for someone who brings strong technical depth in spray drying and the ability to translate theory into practical industrial solutions. You enjoy working across organisational boundaries and can communicate complex technical topics clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.

To succeed in this role, you should bring:

  • An MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or another relevant discipline.
  • Industrial experience with spray drying at pilot and/or commercial scale.
  • Experience from pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing, a CDMO/CMO environment or an equipment supplier setting.
  • Strong understanding of scale-up, process robustness and industrial drying operations; experience with peptides, late-stage development or outsourced manufacturing is an advantage.
  • A structured, solution-oriented mindset, strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across internal teams and external partners.
